Abolish Congress movement starts rolling | Inquirer Opinion

Macalintal said that during the six-year suspension of Congress, the Philippines will save P211 billion (that’s billions of pesos). That includes not only the regular salaries and allowances of senators and congressmen and their staffs, but also the pork barrel fund, and the budgets for the Commission on Appointments, the Senate Electoral Tribunal (SET) and the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal.
In the Philippines, members of Congress are paid even when they are absent from congressional sessions, or are on vacation, or traveling abroad, or doing something else not related to their congressional duties—such as, when Sen. Bong Revilla and Sen. Tito Sotto are making movies or television shows, or when Rep. Manny Pacquiao is training for and fighting in boxing bouts—for which they earn so much money. They do not deserve, the salary and allowances—and yes, the pork barrel—that they collect from the Filipino taxpayers.

Dapat ang VP din ay walang budget, the only time he get's to have is when he assume presidency. He is just a spare tire in case the president get's incapacitated. Daming savings nyan for juan de la cruz to benefit from their taxes. Tigan ko kung sino pa ang gusto talagang magserbisio sa bayan, kung walang pera.

I know a former maor from the Visayas. Ashis term expired for running 3x as mayor, he passed this recent election to give way for his uncle to run as congressman. Next term naman cya dapat ang tatakbo palit sa uncle nya. Ngayon ayaw na nya tumakbo kasi wala ng pork. Talking about serbisio sa bayan.

CBCP: We are in solidarity with the people vs pork

MANILA - The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said it will allow the people to organize protests and mass actions for the abolition of pork rather than taking the lead.

In an interview with Radio Veritas, outgoing CBCP President and Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said the church leadership is happy that the public is taking the lead in the fight against pork barrel misuse.

“We are not making a formal statement in the sense of like we are leading or what, people has already organized. Ours is an expression of solidarity, what we are saying is, let people join but we are not organizing that. It’s about time that people manifest their own conviction,” he said.

He said the CBCP also supports the “EDSA Tayo” initiative on September 11.

He said the CBCP is in solidarity with the people against greed and corruption. He said they will release a formal statement within the day.

“May mga pastoral letter na ang CBCP-NASSA, si incoming CBCP President Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Soc Villegas at Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle. All of these reflect the sentiments of CBCP and it’s very obvious in principle We want PDAF to be stopped. Find ways and means to reach out to the poor,” he said.

He believes more protests will be created until the government acts on the needs of the people
Can't they acknowledge first that their priests likewise benefitted from pork?
