June 13th, 2017 09:19 PM #101are these the two ads being compared?
the Ph ad is good!
plagiarism? if i knew a similar ad existed, i would have steered away from it. personal pride and all that...
the question is, just how similar is the newer ad to the older ad? in my opinion, the newer ad has its own identity.Last edited by dr. d; June 13th, 2017 at 09:30 PM.

The first fifteen to twenty seconds of the Philippine ad is an almost shot-by-shot recreation of the South Africa ad. The middle doesn't matter. Obviously we have different sights here. The last part of the Philippine ad is also eerily similar to the South African ad in execution.

While some measure of groupthink does exist in advertising... tropes about nature... friendliness... etcetera are common fodder for tourist ads, such blatant parallelisms indicate possible plagiarism at the storyboard/script level.

Is it a good ad? Sure. Is it plagiarism? I could build a pretty solid case.

June 15th, 2017 01:10 PM #106Not an advertising guru, but imho we can do better.
A few years back, Coca-Cola came out with a slew of Pinoy-specific ads, including the one featuring Nikki Gil. Those i find quite creative, uniquely Pinoy.
Recently, we also had those McDo / Jollibee tearjerker ads. Sobfest, yes, but powerful.
The DoT should hire those guys.
btw, is this the 80s? Social media is the new advertising battleground. They should enlist Pinoy or Pinoy-friendly Youtube/SC personalities to push the Ph tourism agenda....don't tell people it's more fun in the Philippines, *show* them.

Na delete na yung video sa official DOT you tube account... And it is a convenient excuse to cancel the contract that the previous administration signed.
