Hahahaha... if this were a communist country, yeah.
And people whisper about Aquino secretly being a communist. Yeah, there are 10 billion reasons for him not to be.
They want him out now because he lacks impartiality. But in the end, he only has one vote. It won't affect the outcome that greatly.
If they want the HLI case to prosper, they would have to impeach almost half the Supreme Court, but it's not necessary, they've already got a good case as the land really was sorely undervalued. Even if, as Corona says, the land is only worth Php 5 billion, that's a whole crapload more than they're being offered now. So what's the issue?
The case against Corona was brought up right after the GMA TRO scandal. It's not hard to see what the primary cause is. HLI may be a side-benefit, but the truth is, the current administration is simply trying to shortcut justice to get at GMA.Last edited by niky; March 27th, 2012 at 02:16 PM.

More to what Niky said, it's also to remove the mantle of immunity and impunity that GMA enjoyed while in office.
C'mon. We all know that her appointments to the judiciary were installed there as her insurance policy once she stepped down from the Presidency. Let's not pretend that it's more than that.

On a personal level... there is no issue. But PNoy's entire campaign platform consisted of his claiming he would clean up the government and make those who stole money from the government accountable. The Supreme Court, mostly staffed by PGMA appointees, is, in his eyes, a major obstacle to fulfilling that promise.
I cannot say that HLI has nothing to do with it, but PNoy is not directly involved in the HLI issue except as a stockholder. A minor one at that, as Cory broke up their portion of HLI and gave part of it to charity. PNoy was in fact, considering getting rid of it (or at least his portion of it) in 2009 because it's a political liability and not really profitable, considering all the issues with labor, anyway.
Every time an Aquino runs for office, HLI is hung over their head by Marcos-loyalists and Leftists alike... as if inheriting land from your forebearers was a crime and as if PNoy speaks for the board, which is headed by his elders...
