August 18th, 2010 08:30 PM #31Its high time that the jeepneys are replaced. No wonder the drivers get so little income, just look at the condition of their engines! I'm sure they haven't done maintenance work with it in years, and notice that most of the engines are of big displacements AFAIK at 2.8 liters for the usual 4BA1 and 4JB1 or 3.3 liters for the 4BC1, just imagine the fuel consumption numbers they'll get.
Its really true that the GT Express Crosswinds, Adventures and Revos get much better FC than them, are more comfortable for both the driver and the passengers, and they get paid more!

know why nagkaroon ng idea na ganun?
the local parts makers lobbied the govt to urge automakers to build tamaraw type vehicles
coz the local parts makers will benefit from it
if the automakers build tamaraw type vehicles, the parts makers will supply the parts
well, the economy will benefit naman
if the automakers build tamaraw type vehicles, they'll hire more people
the automakers will order parts from local parts makers, the parts makers will hire more people due to increase order volume
good for the economy
but the govt is looking at it from the supply side
how about the demand side?
may demand ba for tamaraw type vehicles?
if there's demand for tamaraw type vehicles here and abroad, the automakers would have already been producing them
there's no demand
the govt doesnt care about the demand side
the govt's concern is the supply side
pogi points for the govt ang job creation
the govt doesnt care about the demand side
if the automakers did what the govt wanted and produced tamaraw type vehicles
pag di mabenta ng automakers ang inventory nila, sasabihin ng gobyerno sa automakers "that's your problem"
---
the govt can be the demand
the govt will buy the tamaraw type vehicles from the automakers
the automakers make money by selling to the govt
they create jobs, the parts makers also make money and create jobs
everybody happy
but that's not gonna happenLast edited by uls; August 19th, 2010 at 06:58 PM.

I think Ford didn't get what the government wants. They want to develop a NEW Fiera, Tamaraw etc., or basically re-engineer the concept of the AUV.
Methinks this is a better alternate to the jeepney, the Isuzu Microbus.

Might be true... it might be better than the jeepney BUT without a government push to phaseout jeepneys, there will be no incentive for the current jeepney operators to shift vehicle types.
Example, no "new" PUJs will be allowed to register for use within Metro Manila. Renewals for PUJs will only be allowed until the vehicle has reached ten years from the time of original manufacture.
This would force existing jeepney operators to look at alternatives to the jeepney like the BEEP, mini Bus, etc

if the govt wanted the automakers to re-engineer the AUV, hindi ba meron na Mitsubishi Adventure, Isuzu Crosswind, Toyota Innova?
yung phased out na FX, Revo?
hindi ba those vehicles are already the modern AUV?
i think the govt really wanted the automakers to build old school AUVs

RE microbuses replacing PUJs
how do you get operators to invest in those P1M+ vehicles?
there are no LTFRB guidelines pa yata
i mean re franchise, routes, whatever
PUJs are still everywhere
ano ba plano ng gobyerno sa mga PUJs?
phase out ba?
will the govt succeed in phasing out PUJs to let microbuses can take over?
may transistion period ba?
microbuses will co-exist with PUJs muna?
mag aagawan ng pasahero ang microbuses and PUJs?
from an investor viewpoint, madami pa tanong
biggest question is how the govt will get rid of PUJs
very politically sensitive yan
if i'm a potential microbus operator, wait and see muna ako
mamaya matapos ko bilhin ang microbus di ako maka pasada ng maayos kasi di pa naayos ang gusot between the govt and the PUJ groups
baka pagbabatuhin ng PISTON, FEJODAP ang microbus ko

August 19th, 2010 07:44 PM #36The Isuzu Microbus is a very good Coaster alternative and perhaps GT Express operators would like to take this one? the 2.8 liter engine is basically a jeepney engine and its FC is not that far from their Crosswinds and Adventures and they get to ferry 2x more people in one go! AFAIK, the only engine available is the non-turbo 4JB1, right? Perhaps Isuzu should throw in the 94hp 4JB1-T used by the Chinese carmakers for more power. And who says there won't be a demand for these locally produced vehicles? There are lots of people in the lower rung of society, with lots of relatives, and have a need for a reliable, efficient and comfortable mode of transport for their daily commute and out of town trips. When an out of town trip is in order, most Filipino families would rather sit as many people in one big vehicle than loosely in two smaller vehicles, that is why if the manufacturers of these locally produced AUVs would be serious with their work and produce good vehicles that are worth buying, it would have a solid following, like the FX's, Fieras, Bidas and Anfras of the past.

i'm highly skeptical the govt can phase out PUJs
considering how populist our politicians are
phasing out PUJs is so anti-poor that no politician will be crazy enough to get involved in something like that

lalagyan lang nila ng pinto sa likod na may nakasulat FAMILY USE
we have workers here who own PUJs
pampasada most of the time
pampamilya sometimes
or pinapa-rent sa mga bakasyonista for out of town trips
as long as jeepneys exist, there will be little demand for old school Tamaraw type vehicles
jeepneys can do what those vehicles can do

August 19th, 2010 08:00 PM #40Yes, but I'm sure not all of them wouldn't want to be going around town in a jeepney with a sign that says "family use" right? Many of them might be just budget limited but want a more modern ride that perhaps looks better, is more comfortable and perhaps have more performance. So I'm just saying that if they produce this kind of vehicle and make them more modern but still competitively priced there would be more options for this certain group of buyers. Besides, who wouldn't want a more comfortable ride for his family?
