We know the Philippines has the capacity to develop a local automotive industry not depending only of surplus parts, as we can see with the jeeps. The hardest part is to develop an engine independently, instead of buy from a bigger automaker like we see the jeepney manufacturers currently doing with Isuzu. But as far as cost goes, businessmen will always look at the initial cost...

the Phils. CAN ONLY ASSEMBLE motor vehicles
the Phils. CANNOT MANUFACTURE from scratch yet
parts have to be imported (chassis, engine, drivetrain, etc) and put together locally
those mini owner jeeps in the other thread have japan surplus chassis and engine from suzuki supercarry/daihatsu hijet type vehicles
only the owner jeep body is local

we chose the remanufactured truck over the reconditioned truck since for 100k difference:
-original LHD steering and linkages. not converted (cut and weld). 1 year warranty on steering and linkages, 6 months general warranty.
-"sobida" leaf springs in front para kargahan instead of the wishbone suspension on reconditioned trucks which will be much more cheaper to maintain.
-all LHD configuration wipers, side mirrors, seating position, transmission location.
-engine is rebuilt, restored to manufacturers specifications HP and torque (computerized calibration)
-all new fluids, filters, and other components of the engine
-and of course, the all new cabin and dashboard. even the odometer reading was at 30km nung kinuha.
malinis yung pagkagawa and parang brandnew talaga pag nakita yung engine.. engine tone was also like new
well, sana di kami magsisi..

February 23rd, 2012 01:36 PM #24*greenfield,
its all true. Most parts used by Sobida is china made. Maganda lang yung outside nila appearance ng unit nila. but inside mostly is China.
Its better to buy subic used trucks or reconditioned trucks because most parts are still original Japan. All conversion of trucks are the same most parts used in conversion are already ORIG LHD.

dami daw nila binabalik for backjobs..

Importation of pre-owned/used commercial trucks and heavy equipment is legal in the Philippines.
Remanufacturing and reconditioning of these kind of units is safe and commercially accepted.
Buying brand new vehicles from local dealerships is very expensive, impractical and not a very sound practice for businesses.
On the other hand, importation of used cars, SUV's etc. is illegal.

June 25th, 2012 11:39 PM #29Wow grabe... is this true? kanina lang I and my dad went to Sobida Edsa cor. Fema Branch. since we are planning to buy a FB body truck, Ang option namin sana ay kia2700, hyundai H100 or local made isuzu nhr.
OT:Mr.Mario De Guzman if possible, can you please PM me. may mga gusto lang po sana akong linawin.
Thanks tsikot
