Back to argument, does the no. of users show the significant effectiveness of an alternative medium(fuel/vehicle) of transportation ?

parang gusto kong gawin thesis to. hehe try ko nga next sem. since it involves technological advancement(autolpg/electric vehicle). and can be related to my course.
Add to the arguement that nearly all of the Auto-LPG conversions were done by the owners of the vehicles. The supporting Auto-LPG filling stations have been earning on income from selling Auto-LPG. No government support.

This is compared to a government funded program which has to prove that it will survive it's own technical shortcomings.

no thanks to you. All you did was make a directory of autolpgs suppliers in Tsikot.

I respect autolpg advocates, I have a lot of friends who are into it. But they actually go out and advocate it and act on it. Whether they profit for them or not. They take a risk for what they believe in. They walk the talk and put thier money where their mouth is.

What I can't find any respect for are people who waste their energy badmouthing a good cause. Nega-vibes. Kaka-turn off.

See what I mean? Balderdash info. The Makati Green Route is not government funded.

    let me see:
-made a compiled list of Auto-LPG installers for ease of access by interested parties.
-made a compiled list of Auto-LPG stations & their locations in Metro Manila and outside Metro Manila at the time when they were few and hard to find.
-maintained a discussion thread for people to ask questions about Auto-LPG including facts and myths. Also created a focused discussion where other users of Auto-LPG can share their personal experiences and find solutions for problems related to Auto-LPG use.
-converted own car and have been using it for three years and counting.
-convinced own skeptical family & family friends to convert other cars to auto-lpg (after more than 1 year after converting my own car).
-uploaded pictures of our cars converted to Auto-LPG as samples for other people interested to follow.

    And I didn't earn a cent.

It is all you can see. Bad mouthing.

Yet I give reason why I do it. I find that the "e-jeepney" can be a better product if more development was given to it to overcome it's obvious shortcomings even before it was launched.

And any worthy project must be able to stand up on it's own legs against it's critics. All I did was do a little pencil pushing and did the math based on a mix of facts & figures taken from you and elsewhere.

If you perceive that the e-jeepney project might be endangered or even fail simply because a few vocal critics, then there must be something so wrong with the project itself that it has to be protected and critics silenced.

From Good News Pilipinas' Technology Milestones:

Foreign electric vehicle makers praise Pinoy eJeepney

Posted on March 17th, 2010 under Technology Milestones

    http://goodnewspilipinas.com/?p=10800

Electric vehicle manufacturers from various countries have praised the Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines for producing the Philippine’s first electric eJeepneys, during the recently concluded Electric Vehicles Asia conference in Hong Kong.

Ferdi Raquel Santos, Vic Co, and Rommel Juan, all of MVPMAP who attended the conference, believed that the recognition was primarily due to the successful implementation of the eJeepney project in the Philippines.
“While new inventions and discoveries are important, finding ways to actually use these innovations and integrate them into their lifestyles is where Filipinos excel and this is where Filipinos apply their ingenuity and creativity,” Juan said.

“SMS (text messaging) is a system that was developed in another country but Filipinos were among the ones who found an innovative, and now essential, use for this tool. Similarly, we did not invent electric vehicles but we are among the countries who have developed a way to integrate these electric vehicles in our public transportation system,” he said.

The Philippines has long been engaged in various activities promoting the use of alternative fuel resources.

A number of taxi operators, for instance, have converted their units to run on LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) and are being serviced by gasoline stations that also provide other alternative fuels like ethanol and biodiesel.

Believing that introducing the electric vehicle directly to both commuters and transportation providers directly might prove difficult, the MVPMAP decided to reach out to government agencies to enable the implementation of a pilot program as a “proof of concept.”

“If we can’t offer it to the private sector yet, why not implement an alternative system which the government can use not just for transport but also to promote alternative fuel resources? The free rides that we offer will help the public become familiar with electric vehicles and know how safe it is,” said Raquelsantos.

“The eJeepney project in the Philippines takes a smarter approach; it makes more sense because it starts with commercial applications like public transportation. Consumers can, at zero risk, gain positive experience with electric vehicles,” he said.

Juan also said that the vehicle was considered environment-friendly because it did not create noise or produce harmful exhaust emissions like carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide that could contribute to climate change at excessive levels.

Unlike hybrids or electric concept cars, the eJeepneys use ordinary car batteries for power.

And while this is far from the gold standard of electric vehicles (the latest ones use batteries similar to those used on laptops), it is still better than fossil fuels.

The idea is that electric vehicles get “cleaner” as time passes and the electric grid begins using more eco-friendly power sources.

The use of electric vehicles is gaining ground with the launch of various electric vehicle projects like the one in Puerto Princesa and the Makati Green Route Program featuring the eJeepney.

MANILA, Feb. 21 (PNA) -- Electric vehicles have been around for a long time but only recently have they been put to actual use in local cities. Puttering around like large golf carts, they have long been treated as novelty vehicles, transporting customers within malls or transferring people from one building to another. And while they proved useful that way, they were not considered as “real” service vehicles.

The Electric Jeepney was featured in the news in 2009 as a cleaner alternative to the diesel-powered workhorses that move Metro Manila’s denizens around. And for some time, too, it was just an interesting piece of information to everyone who saw the

features, until some groups decided that it was time to put the eJeepneys to actual use.

With a build similar to small “multicab” shuttle vehicles that seat 12 passengers, the eJeepneys are perfect for short community routes.

The Makati City government, in partnership with the Stichting Doen Foundation, launched last November the Makati Green Route project, where the iCSC deployed 10 new Philippine-made eJeepneys that offered free eJeepney rides in Salcedo Village and Legaspi Village, starting and ending in Landmark.

"Bold action is needed during this period when we are beset by the financial and climate crisis. We commend the leadership of Makati City for showing to the country and the world what Filipinos are capable of," said Red Constantino, director of the iCSC.

According to the iCSC, climate change-inducing carbon dioxide emissions was expected to triple in Asia in the next 20 years, coming mainly from the transport sector. Sustainable transport and clean energy utilization - key facets of iCSC's programs - are considered key measures that can help mitigate global warming as well as build more climate-resilient communities.

Before the launching of ejeepneys in Makati City, a Makati office worker would need to walk long distances to get to their offices.

Apart from a few (illegal) FX shuttles or taxi cabs, there are no public utility vehicles in Salcedo and Legaspi. This means paying anywhere from P12 (FX shuttle) to over P30 (taxi flag down rate) to travel a distance of a little over a kilometer. And while there are covered, elevated walkways and connected parking buildings, strolling in business attire the afternoon heat is not an appealing prospect especially in the summer months.

According to Chan Donaire of Citibank, she and her officemates appreciate the existence of the Green Route.

"Pagbaba namin ng office meron agad. [When we step out of the office there’s one waiting] It's really accessible. Plus you don't have to pay for anything." Getting from her office building in Salcedo Village to, say, Greenbelt mall is usually a 20-minute brisk walk through a couple of underpasses and the elevated walkway. With the eJeepneys the same 20 minutes are spent in relative comfort.

For Arnold Villegas, also a worker in Makati, the presence of eJeepneyss has made his workday more convenient.

"Iyong dating nilalakad mo, pwede ka nang sumakay. Mas mabilis na ngayong makakarating sa pupuntahan tapos convenient at libre pa. [Before I used to walk, now I can ride. It’s faster, more convenient, and free]," he said.

Eric Monil shares the same sentiment. "Nung wala pang eJeepneys, naglalakad lang kasi wala pang biyahe." [Before the eJeepneyss I used to walk because there were no rides available.

Some non-regular passengers are not aware that the service is free and will often ask how much the fare is. Rodel Luto, a MAPSA-assigned eJeepneys driver says "Sinasabi namin sa kanila na libre ang sakay.

Pero may mga iba na nagsasabing magbibigay sila so tinuturo na lang namin iyong box. [We tell them that the service is free. But since they insist on giving something so we point to the box] referring to the suggestion/comment box located in the passenger area. Others who still want to help give the drivers food or bottled water.

While providing a convenient means of transportation to Makati workers is a worthy enough goal, the Makati Green Route Project ultimately aims to educate every passenger on living greener lifestyle.

“We want them to experience riding an environment-friendly vehicle in order for them to realize that it is safe and comparable to regular cars,” says Constantino.

The project is being appreciated by Makati workers not just for the free rides but also because the vehicles do lesser harm to the environment. "Dapat maging tuloy-tuloy itong gawin kasi maganda iyong programa.

Malaking tulong sa mga tao sa Makati. Tapos mababawasan pa iyong polusyon," [It should continue because the program is good. It’s a big help to the people of Makati and it lessens pollution] shares Romeo Taripe, a Makati worker and resident.

Currently, there are 12 eJeepneys in Makati, 8 of which travel two routes (Salcedo and Legaspi), with the other four serving as back-ups in case of mechanical/technical problems.

The Makati Green Route is being funded and operated by the ICSC, through the assistance of Stichting Doen Foundation. “We have sourced the funding to set up the project for its initial run but its maintenance and continued operation will be dependent on an advertising-based business model,” shares Yvonne Castro, ICSC executive director. The free rides are crucial to the project’s goal of promoting the use of electric vehicles so a regular fare is not being considered.

ICSC encourages businesses and other organizations to support this green campaign by adopting an eJeepneys or placing advertisements.

“We need the help of businesses in continuing this project. So we encourage those who are actively engaged in environmental initiatives to support the Makati Green Route Project,” Castro added. (PNA)

Is PHUV, Inc. involve in this project?

Meralco ties up with WWF for electric mass transport

    abs-cbnNEWS.com | 03/25/2010 6:44 PM

    http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/...mass-transport

MANILA, Philippines - Power distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to develop a sustainable electric mass transportation system.

The tie-up is in line with Meralco's environmental conservation and preservation advocacies addressing global warming, the power firm said.

Particularly, the partnership will focus on improving the design of jeepneys running on electricity.

Earlier, the Department of Energy said it had coordinated with the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for a study on road transportation system powered by electricity.

The DOTC wanted to tap Meralco to pursue this.

The government had drawn up a comprehensive clean energy investment plan which will specifically list down priority projects and sites for clean energy projects.

The plan is in line with the overall thrust of the Philippine government to address climate change.

Power utility spurs use of electric jeeps

    By Amy R. Remo
    Philippine Daily Inquirer
    First Posted 17:16:00 03/27/2010

MERALCO has partnered with the World Wide Fund for Nature to develop and promote a sustainable all-electric mass transportation system.

    http://business.inquirer.net/money/t...electric-jeeps

LONG-TERM solutions to ease the adverse effects of climate change have never been more urgent, spurring companies to do all they can to address these issues.

For its part, Manila Electric Co., the country’s biggest power distributor, has forged an agreement with WWF (World Wildlife Foundation) Philippines to develop and promote a sustainable all-electric mass transportation system, focusing initially on the iconic jeepney.

Although the first batch of electric jeepneys had been tested in the Philippines as early as 2007, a huge percentage of commuter jeeps are still running on fossil fuel.

The development of eco-friendly electric jeeps is in line with the environmental conservation and preservation advocacies of WWF and Meralco.

“This joint project for cleaner air, which will initially focus on improving the design of existing electric jeepneys to efficiently run on electricity, aims to encourage other corporate entities to advocate for sustainable environmental causes and campaigns to address global warming,” WWF says.

“Meralco has continuously pursued various environment, safety and health programs that are vigorously sustained – all for the well-being of the communities Meralco serves,” says Miguel L. Lopez, Meralco VP and head of corporate marketing and communications.

“Collectively, these Meralco initiatives address an array of ecological concerns including air pollution control, water conservation, tree planting, battery waste management, solid waste management, bio-intensive gardens, and the creation and utilization of renewable energy resources,” he says in his speech during the signing ceremonies.

Under the agreement, Meralco will make recommendations to WWF experts regarding the best technology that can be used in the design and development of an electric public utility vehicle, according to Meralco senior assistant VP Melinda Derpo.

Derpo, who also heads Meralco marketing programs, says the distribution utility is initially committing P500,000 on the project. It will likewise participate with WWF in meetings with concerned local governments to formalize agreements on the use of electric vehicles in their areas, she adds.

“This long term partnership between Meralco and WWF-Philippines is truly a welcome development. As we all know, carbon dioxide emissions from gasoline and diesel powered vehicles is a major cause of air pollution which further contributes to global warming,” Lopez says.

“Developing a sustainable electric transport system through a new generation of electric vehicles will help a lot in addressing climate change and global warming,” he further says.
I hope Romski123 and PHUV, Inc. will be tapped by Meralco-WWF for this project.
