Free e-jeepney rides offered in Makati

    (The Philippine Star)
    Updated November 02, 2009 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines – The Institute for Climate and Sustainable Cities (ICSC) and the Motor Vehicle Parts Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (MVPMAP) announced they will offer free rides in their electric jeepney or e-jeepney in Makati.

The City government of Makati will offer starting early this month free e-jeepney rides in two routes, the Legaspi Village loop and the Salcedo Village loop. Both routes will start and end at the Landmark Department Store area along Makati Avenue with a 10-second dwelling time in each of the 15 stops in each loop.

The project is expected to dramatically reduce noise and air pollution in Makati as the e-jeepney does not emit either noise or harmful exhaust emissions.

The locally-assembled e-jeepney is the very first electric vehicle ever granted a license plate by the Land Transportation Office.

It was recognized by Discovery Channel’s Ecopolis as “the new modern transport technology with the best chance of saving the world’s cities from pollution problems.”

It was also awarded a Fr. Satur Neri Award by the Presidential Adviser on Climate Change during this year’s Earth Day celebrations. – Ma. Elisa Osorio
A proof of the significance of the e-jeepney. More power to MVPMAP, PHUV, INc. and MDJuan for their efforts to build a new jeepney- a clean and environmentally-friendly one.

The Makati activity for the e-jeepney will help in popularizing the vehicle.

I hope this will be duplicated in areas where e-jeepneys are present: Bacolod and Puerto Princesa!

I hope e-jeepneys will also be used in Boracay and other resorts!
Congrats to the e-jeepney proponents and good work Romski123!.

    This is my reply.

Kasi brand new talaga ang e-jeepney. Yung regular jeepney yung makina at transmission luma at surplus na. Kaya magkaiba presyo.

Institutions, government centers, schools and industrial estates ang target nila.
