from the commuter's view i think it doesnt matter if it's electric or diesel basta pareho ang amount na ibabayad
unless the commuter is a treehugger di talaga siya sasakay sa diesel jeepney... maghihintay siya ng ejeepney hehe
unless late na siya at no choice... sakay nalang sa diesel

That would be a good idea for "clean air". BUT it might be political suicide for the city mayor who implements it that way.
In the very least the Makati CBD can be serviced by e-jeepneys if the city mayor is serious enough about the electric public transport idea. Unfortunately it's just more of a publicity stunt than anything else.

hehe
di gagalawin ng mga mayor mga diesel jeepney
baka sabihin na-bribe ng ejeepney company ang mayor
the ejeepney company should do a lot more lobbying ($$$)
imagine kung napa-ban nila ang diesel jeepneys... ejeepney sales will skyrocket

February 28th, 2012 12:10 PM #109521 e-jeeps ply Makati today

TWENTY-ONE e-jeepney granted franchises by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will ply the Makati Central Business District starting today.
Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay, Jr. will lead the launching at 10 a.m. at the Glorietta 3 Park, Ayala Center.
The LTFRB on Feb. 8 granted the franchises for 10 units to ply the Legaspi Loop and 11 units for the Salcedo Loop.
Binay was elated over the timely approval of the franchises which have been pending with the LTFRB for years. He said the city government has been eagerly waiting for the franchises, and finally securing them is a great pride for the city of Makati.
“Makati is the first city in Metro Manila and the country to operate electric vehicles for public transport, and this is enough reason for the city government to celebrate. I firmly believe that through this initiative, Makati is contributing much to the reduction of carbon emissions that contribute to global warming and the changing climate,” he said.

March 1st, 2012 11:51 PM #1099E-Jeepneys: A Possible Paradigm Shift to Help Alleviate Plight of Jeepney Drivers in the Country — TUCP
Thursday, 01 March 2012 01:58
The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) yesterday welcomed the introduction of e-jeepneys and its monthly salarization scheme to its drivers as a possible introduction of a paradigm shift to alleviate the plight of thousands of Filipino drivers and reduce emission of fossil-fuel pollution.
“The introduction of regular monthly salary to e-jeepney drivers could probably change the daily calculus of our drivers in terms of income and working environment. Nowadays, with the boundary system, they are earning a measly 300 to 400 pesos take home pay after a day’s 10-hour rigorous work. Yet, if they are paid with e-jeepneys’ regular salary, well, this can spell an improvement in their way of life,” said Democrito Mendoza, TUCP President.
Mendoza also emphasized that with the current e-jeepney concept as introduced, drivers will not just enjoy the security of a dignified waged earner but they will also contribute in minimizing the pollution in their working environment.
“With the e-jeepney, drivers’ exposure and their contribution to the pollution on the streets where they work is dramatically lessened. If pollution in their working environment is minimized, they tend to be more productive,” Mendoza added.
Mendoza made the reaction in view of the granting of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) franchise the other day to 21 e-jeepneys to ply some select routes in Makati City beginning tomorrow March 1.
There are 203,000 estimated registered fossil-fuelled jeepneys with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and around 50,000 of which are in Metro Manila. ###

the company that builds the ejeepneys and the company that holds the franchise are very likely related
that's why they can pay the drivers salaries instead of boundary system
their cost is lower (coz they're the manufacturer) so ROI is faster than if an independent operator bought an ejeepney from them at retail price. an independent operator will be determined to make ROI so he would impose boundary system on his driver
besides, the goal of the ejeepney franchise holder isnt to make ROI. their goal is to promote the ejeepney hoping independent operators would buy ejeepneys. they won't really care if they operate breakeven. and even if they operate at a loss -- ejeepneys couldnt earn enough to pay the salaries of the drivers then the mother company will subsidize the franchise holder
they have other businesses (the ejeepney builder is owned by the autoparts manufacturers association)
sisiw lang sa kanila magpasweldo ng driver
question is if independent operators can also pay salary instead of boundary systemLast edited by uls; March 2nd, 2012 at 12:39 AM.
