White smoke. How did the problem started? Overheating?
Did they check c. head warpage? Checked cylinder head bolt torqued equally after run. Mahirap talaga if you cant see/read the specific culprit according to the computer. Maraming extra sensors ang X1 because of the HUIE. Wala pa akong kilalang expert sa engine na yan I hope you would be the first. Goodluck bro!

January 1st, 2008 01:40 PM #16Hi 4JGtootsie / 2terns,
Happy new year to you as well as our tsikoters group.
FYI, we don't work on the 4JX1 as the Tech2 scanner is available to Isuzu service dealers only. We always recommend that the customer bring his car to Isuzu.
However, I admire you for your persistence and wish you success. We have had some experience on this engine so here are my thoughts:
- Use the recommended lube oil for this engine as it's purpose is not only for lubrication, but for high pressure injector actuation as well. Injection timing may be delayed if oil foams. We were able to correct some white smoke problems by just using the correct oil grade.
- Check the catlyctic converter. It may accumulate soot if the engine is not driven hard. Hard driving sometimes cleans this up.
- Check the butterfly valve on the engine's intake manifold. It may be closed or partially closed due to wrong vacuum line routing. Insufficient air = poor diesel ignition = white smoke.
- Check the cylinder head gasket. This engine can use 3 types of cylinder head gaskets with varying thicknesses to provide the correct compression ratio. Gasket selctionn procedure in on the shop manual.
Bye,
Dieseldude

thanks a lot sir dieseldude, friend's initial thought was the oil he told me he replaced it with besmoco (i saw the can too). he also clean the exh system. we're going to check the hose routing, we've got problem with those hoses (hence the title of the thread). he had checked the head, all ok no warpage no water leak no signs of contaminations/ but to be sure i will also pull the head if parts are availabe (friend did not replace the headbolts- i read they are torque-to-yield so i'm going to look for the bolts before inspecting the head again). project this week is to check the sensors if they're are all in working ranges. hopefully our members can suggest more, pls keep them flowing, the solution might be simple, i'm not a diesel expert but i'm trying my best to help solve this mystery (hope i won't loose my sanity, he he he) thanks again

January 2nd, 2008 11:40 AM #18I have the following questions:
- Startability OK?
- Does the engine have power?
- Does white smoke occur on all speed ranges?
- Does white smoke occur only when the engine is cold, or even when hot?
Bye,
Dieseldude

T2ern,
Try to pass by tomorrow to see your animal
Dieseldude,
Thank you for helping solve this isuzu problem. A lot of isuzu peeps will monitor this thread. Ang ganda ng sound ng 5 cylinder MB123 that you test drove this afternoon. We use to have a 300SD with a 126body a very elegant car. Does it have the same engine. The first turbo diesel that i ever drove quite fast at that time.
