Or they could be like me and actually move their car to higher ground every time there's a typhoon. Two five foot deep floods and the Lynx (knock on wood) hasn't gone under yet...
You can check in areas that are hard to reach or clean... try to see if the upholstery has any weird smell or if the engine sounds weird.
If they've replaced absolutely everything that's damaged... you won't really be able to tell without pulling the car apart and checking every nook and cranny... but then... if they've replaced absolutely everything... eh... di... parang hindi naman na-flood... diba?

i dont know much about cars and mine (city 08, manual tranny) got flooded yesterday. covered ng baha hanggang tip ng gulong. im now drying the car out but how do i diagnose the extent of the damage?
here's what i noticed:
- I started the engine and water sputtered out of the muffler, the exhaust that comes out of the muffler has a stronger burnt smell.
- The hum of the engine is much louder during idle. It would idle just fine then "shake" a bit.
- Wala naman error according dun sa displays (those that display warning lights sa may speedometer e.g. oil, engine, etc)
- aircon, lights, keyless entry works just fine.
Also, would it be safe to drive it na to the detailing place? And tama ba na ipainterior detail ko muna before taking it sa casa? The floodwater stinks and Im worried na baka matagalan pa pag claim sa insurance.
please

September 28th, 2009 03:00 AM #66mga sir's i have a 1988 nissan california, was submerged in almost waist deep water. It is now starting up and running well , actually better. Here's what i have done;
1. When the waters receded I removed the battery terminals, and checked the dipstick for water intrusion. No water so in engine, whew!
2. I did not start the car. I had it towed to a gas station. Oil was checked, turns out there was a little amount of water in with the oil.
Engine was flushed and oil was changed, while started to clean the interior. Sparkplugs were cleaned, Distributor cap was dried, and the car started after the oil change.
3.I had the interior professionally cleaned/detailed. Better have it done by the pros.
hope this helps

That's a sad thing to hear. I feel bad for our fellow tsikoteers whose cars were submerged in the recent floodings . . .
If your car/s' submerged, don't attempt to start it. Disconnect the battery. Then have it towed to your mechanic's shop for further interventions.
I hope this helps . . .
