June 23rd, 2009 09:49 PM #1Good evening, fellow tsikoteers.
Please bear with my story kasi medyo nahihirapan akong i comprehend ang stand ng Car Dealer ko regarding sa pag admit na merong defect (kahit papaano, since 3month old pa lang ang pickup namin) ang windshield ng service ko. For now, nameless muna ang mga involve na Sales Agent, Branch Manager, Dealer & Insurance company.
Yesterday morning as I was driving to work from Sucat to Makati I happen to notice a small crack on the windshield just a little above the left wiper on the driver side. I immediately stopped in Bicutan (under the bridge) to check what happened. But I can not conclude that somewhere along the way (though SKYWAY PHASE II is at full blast) I got hit by a very tiny, stray metallic object that caused the crack. Wala akong napansing ganung pagkakataon & kung sakaling meron man ako mismo ang hahabol sa PNCC+CITRA SKYWAY. Pero walang ganun. The crack actually looked like it was hit by a very sharp, pointed tip of a knife. Di gaya ng tama ng bato na may "spider web" sa paligid ng point of impact. I immediately called my SA to tell him my story and then proceeded to my place of work. I parked the pickup in covered parking the whole day so as not to "stress" the windshield when exposed to the sun/weather elements. I then decided na bukas ko na dadalhin sa casa.
Dito na ako medyo naiinis nang nilapit ko na ito sa Dealer. Si Dealer, kaninang umaga nung dinala ko ang service para makita, ay ganito ang observation. Pero beforehand I know that these dealers, through their policy, will really try to deny/dispute our claim na may defect/lemon ang item. So with that in mind, I then proceeded to tell them my story. Which is actually what really happened, no stir, no added elements to spice things up.
I was really not surprised at their conclusion. And nung nakita nila yung maliit na maliit na tama ng crack they already concluded na this is out of their warranty and that the Insurance company would then takeover. And we all know that there would definitely be a participation fee. In my case this amount to a little more than 5K.
As of this writing, di ko pa napag dedesisyunan kung ilalaban ko thru warranty or isusuko ko ang laban ang mag gigive way ako kay Insurance. What keeps me irritated is that Dealer is not even considerate with my case . The unit itself is barely 3months old and that who among us in his right mind would want this thing to happen in our ride. No one.
I wanted to know how would you guys react if you are in my shoes.
I'll upload the photo later for you to see.

First of all, three months is a long time. A lot of things could transpire in that span of time. For instance, the damage (intentionally or accidentaly) could have happened while the car was parked without you around.
2nd, if it was a factory defect, you'd probably have seen it sooner than 3 months. Most folks with a new car tend to pamper their ride for the first several months... doing the car wash and waxing themselves, etc. It is during this time that they usually find paint imperfections, and other things. If the crack is obvious enough, you could've seen it sooner.
Finally, since the damage is obviously external in nature (as opposed to being caused by the car's body, frame or other parts), it's definitely not a warranty issue. The dealer wouldn't be able to justify it to their principal the replacement.
You have two choices; Live with it if the damage is superficial, or have insurance replace it.Last edited by oj88; June 23rd, 2009 at 10:30 PM.

most probably a small stone hit your windshield while you were driving.. kung walang crack.. then baka pwedeng wag na lang papalitan.. pero if you're really bothered.. then sasagutin naman nang insurance yan.. bayad ka nga lang nang participation. Pero definetely not a warranty issue.

June 23rd, 2009 10:57 PM #4Thanks men for the reply. Right now as I read the thread medyo naliliwanagan ako.
" The dealer wouldn't be able to justify it to their principal the replacement.".
That's actually what they said to me. And I don't think I can live the fact na kung mapalusot man yan ni Dealer sa planta, for sure ang magbabayad nyan for me is the approving officer. Unfair sa kanya.
So I might as well go on with the Insurance.
Regards,

eh how about kung five days old pa lang yung sasakyan, pwede kaya mag claim ng warranty?
ganyang ganyan yung nangyari sa akin, halos literaly. same place (slex near bicutan) and truck din (pick-up). wont be surprised na parehong brand.
as for me, i just claimed sa insurance. i believed then na minalas at tinamaan ng bato. di ko naisip non na baka defective yung windshield talaga (yep, naive me even if wala pang isang lingo yung sasakyan). sa pagbabasa basa ko na lang dito sa tsikot and reading about windshields tsaka ko naisip na baka nga defective yon. tsk.

If the crack in the windshield is caused by a defect, be it manufacturing or installation, the crack line would usually start from one of the four end sides of the windshield.

hehe, salamat sa pagencourage regarding the warranty. pero tapos na yon eh, last december. though sa gilid din nagumpisa yung crack nung sa akin, (though hindi sa dulo, pero taas na nung black edge) ang napansin ko parang may sobrang liit na 'sugat' in the surface na pinagmulan yung crack eh
ang tanong ko na lang ngayon... meron yung windshield ko na parang white (o clear) spot/dot/'bubble' inside the black edge of the windshield. rubber part na ba yn o sealant. parang bubble tint itsura, except hindi naman na natitintan yung part na yon ng windshield. something's wrong with the windshield nanaman kaya?
salamat
