I don't think so. There's usually a duct extending to the front of the engine. The opening of that duct is what you will cover. If you keep smelling engine fumes inside your car, since it's enclosed being airconditioned, you will suffer from carbon monoxide poisoning. You'll feel lightheaded and possibly get severe headache.
As previously mentioned, this will impair your ability to think - which will lead to accidents.
Good luck.

April 3rd, 2010 05:55 PM #2733There is an access area in the wiper mechanism and drain cover at the passenger side. Just remove it and you can see the air inlet. What I discovered is that the air inlet is just an opening in the firewall and there is no duct. Since its just an opening, exhaust gases can easily be sucked in the air inlets when the air conditioning blower is switched on. I remedied this by placing multiple filters in the holes and securing it into place via double adhesive tape. So far it has worked but I have informed my SA about it and he said that this will be reported to the tech team at Nissan Sta. Rosa in order find a more permanent solution to this problem.

finally, mapapalitan na ang windshield. brought the car in yesterday sa nissan gallery ortigas for the windshield replacement and sinabay na ang 5k pms. since they need 3 days to work on the pms and windshield replacement, i asked them if they can do work on the vents. they said that they need 3 days to work on the vent since they have to take down the whole dashboard. kaya pala matagal gawin and some casas are reluctant to do that since you can imagine 3 days of their time to work on an item that is under warranty. so i got a commitment from the 2 Service Advisors kung kaya makuha sa saturday and kaya daw so pina go ko na. yung 2 days ng windshield is installation for the 1st day and drying and testing for the 2nd day. so habang nag dry sila ng windshield seal, binabaklas na nila ang dashboard. sana lang hindi magka-kalampag pag balik nila ng dashboard...
will update you kung successful ang pag ayos nila ng vent.
