Owning a 3.0 Neo diesel Elgrand is not a bad thing it's a powerful engine, it's a common rail set up. But if your going to get one do the modifications to the motor that will keep it running and keep you from having to replace your turbo.
Things you must do!!! Must is the key word.
#1 manual boost controller why? It will save your motor from the over boost condition caused by a clogged EGR valve or dirty MAF sensor. These are what kill these engines. They are prone to this from 1999-2002.
#2 Oil catch can with filter media. A green scrub pad works great, You can buy one from a performance shop or make your own.
#3 EGR block off plate. Must have a manual boost controller before this modification because it will raise your boost on the Neo diesel 4 to 6 psi.
Now for the mods.
Manual boost controller is pretty simple. Should be the first thing you get. Only 1500P to 2500P most places.
OIL Catch can.
Be sure to use a filter element. Foam works well like the kind in some air filters or packing material.
When connecting the hoses Please remove the restrictor from the Nissan hose and installed it into the inlet hose, its there for a reason so use it.
When connecting the hose make sure that once the engine cover is back on it does not touch.
The plastic cover vibrates a fair bit and can eventually “saw” its way through the hose.
EGR Valve blanking plate.
What your motor looks like without these mods or water injection to keep things clean.
Complete blockage at 85000K

Air filter fouled by oil mist in just 10000K this will kill your MAF sensor and cause the over boost condition.
Hopefully all these technical post are helpful to you new Elgrand owners. I am not saying don't get a 3.0 just know what your getting and be prepared to do the proper mods to keep it running. The over boost issue applies to the 3.2 Diesel in regards to the MAF sensor as well but not the EGR valve causing over boost.
I have all 3 mods for my 3.2 elgrand plus water injection of course. Plan to keep her running good for years.
Also get a EGT gauge and boost gauge if you can.
Filthy intake on a Neodiesel.
Heads are not much better.

Hi Dvldoc,
I added 0.4liter of 2T motorcycle oil on my full tank and everything is ok so far. Until you post "not to do it on common rail engine. question, Is my 3.0 Neo Di engine same as CRDI(common rail direct injection)? I'm a bit worried. Are you absolutely sure the motorcycle oil is safe for my type of engine?
Regarding your advice about the MAF, oil catch can, manual boost controller & egr block plate.... can this all be done by Speedlab? how much do think will it cost in Pesos?
Hope to meet you when you visit Manila. just txt me...0915 8185928

Speedlab can for sure install the boost controller and fab up the blanking plate. They also sell oil catch cans. I think there boost controller is like 9000P installed. You can however find them cheaper and just have them install it.

The ZD30DDTi engine is a common rail diesel, some people run the 2T oil in it but due to the much higher pressure of the pump the ability of it to atomize it comes into question due to its slightly higher viscosity. So for common rail I would not. But if you have the 3.0 engine you need to do these mods or look for a new turbo soon or new engine.
Here is a speedlab install of a manual boost controller. This would be the first thing I got. It will keep you from the overboost condition and protect your engine. The blanking plate second for the EGR simple metal plate they can fab up. There also have the oil catch can a bit spendy but I would still get one done. I made two but chose my second design because it was simple and cost only like 15USD for all the parts. I just added the 1/2 npt barbed fitting and bingo sweet easy to empty oil catch can.

Speedlab boost controller
This is the boost controller I have and have used for years on many vehicles. same principle and basically bullet proof performance http://nxsmotorsports.com/
Hopefully back in the Philippines sometime early next year for a nice 30 day vacation.Last edited by dvldoc; October 18th, 2010 at 03:43 AM.

Sorry the single post count then reference to someones business then giving a number to call about vehicles.
i refer to you my friend hes almost five vyears in the business right now he got wide variety of japanese car most specially elgrand you can txt me at 09XXXXXXXXXXXX kung gusto nyo ma view elgrand baka magustuhan nyo
Anyways back to the Elgrand.
Here is the ZD30DDI motors turbo. You would put the boost controller were the hose from the turbo to the wastegate is. Just get a longer piece of tubing and insert it.
This really is a do it yourself job. But you really need a boost gauge to see were your boost is set at stock so you can set it close to that or a few psi above.
The 3.0 also has a non conventional oil filter.

Most aircon problems are a result of the conversion process. Always fully test the aircon on any converted vehicle as well as a good long drive it like you stole test drive.
In case anyone wants techy stuff on the elgrand, Have most of the shop manuals you not going to find on the internet for free. I am happy to post up a requested part. or system. if the PDF is small enough I can email it to you.
Right now I have the complete
Front and rear axle manual
Brakes
transfer case for you 4X4 model guys
Front and rear suspension
steering system (org LHD)
Complete engine guide to the 3.0 turbo diesel ZD30 motor
Complete engine guide to the TD27 engine (note the TD27 and QD32TEI share almost every mechanical part. The only real difference is the displacement, and the turbo. Same, injectors, glow plugs, filters, starter, water pump, (not sure on the alternator yet)

Hi Dvldoc,
Do you recommend a full synthetic oil for the Neo Di engine? A lot of blogs lately are saying that synthetic oil is not good for the engine. please advise what is the best viscousity for philippine condition.

The reason for the statement do not use synthetics is because it causes even more oil vapor/mist to built up in the system the the crankcase vent and increases soot and carbon build up in your intake. If you do the oil catch which on both the 3.2 and 3.0 Elgrand engines should be a mandatory thing.
I plan to run 100% Shell Synthetic oil 10/30 or royal purple. Synthetics have better lubrication. longer oil change intervals, and reduce friction better. I will be changing my oil every 15000k but I also have Fleetguard oil filters from Cummings enough to last about 100000 milesand Fleetguard fuel filters which will be done ever 20000K. These are the best filters you can get for the money period. There are few that are close but I don't think you can get them in the Philippines.
By the way it's 6.9 liters with filter for both engines.
STANDARD DIFF OIL - 3 L of 80w-90 Gear Oil (GL5) or equivalent. You probably want to change this after 100000K
But for normal filters 12000K with synthetic is a good oil change interval.
Just remember 3.2 Turbo diesel, Oil catch can, EGR block off
3.0 Neo Diesel, manual boost controller, oil catch can, EGR block off.Last edited by dvldoc; October 21st, 2010 at 06:43 PM.
