I agree with Jut. If it was me, I'd go for the automatic. The ones you've mentioned are just nice to have and could have been foregone, if and only if the base model was an automatic transmission too.

It's not as fun as driving a manual, but the comfort you'd get in return is priceless. Especially if there's heavy traffic in your usual route.

Plus, I don't think the sylphy was built for sporty driving, but rather built for comfort (I rode one before, it's very comfy and very roomy).

With regards to fuel economy, I'm not exactly sure how thrifty the caris, but since it's a CVT, the transmission is actually tuned for fuel efficiency. (Well most if not all CVTs are fuel efficient).

If there is a 70k discount on all Sylphy models, why not opt for the 1.8V model instead? The additional grunt will be a welcome thing for the heavy chassis of the Sylphy.

It might not look like it, but all the compacts are actually roughly the same weight:

    Civic 1.8 - 1239 kg
    Mazda 3 1.5 - 1254 kg
    Altis 1.6V - 1265 kg
    Sylphy 1.8 - 1260 kg

Only the Focus 1.5T sedan is porky at 1409 kg 😁

Jut - the extra grunt of the 1.8L engine is always a welcome thing compared to the 1.6L engine pushing the same weight of the Sylphy.

The Focus makes up for its extra weight with its extra grunt from its 1.5L turbo engine (180PS/250Nm). It just trails the Civic RS in quickness and about as quick as the Mazda3 2.0L and Golf 1.4T.

Yeah no doubt extra power is nice. Just commenting on the statement that the Sylphy has a "heavy" body.

My old Altis with a 1.6L engine never felt underpowered lugging around the same weight.

Come to think of it, most compacts nowadays are around the same weight as older midsize cars around 15 years ago. Most of such compacts are now classified as medium under LTO registration guidelines.

    Not really:

    2001 Accord - 1370 kg
    2003 Accord - 1475 kg
    2003 Camry - 1410 kg

Higher GVW but not curb weight. My Mazda 3 is heavier than my Civic but is still classified as Small while the Civic is Medium.

1.8V is worth 1.013M. Even with less 70k that's 150k more than the base. I'd like something economical that I can pay up in 2 years or less.

Sylphy offers the best price with standard safety features and space, kaya ito napili ko.

Is driving MT in the city really that bad? I used to pero sa probinsya.
