Partially over the road rage shooting reporting a few months back.
Say what you will about the guy, he will be missed. A good, aggressive editor who really pushed people to get into the nitty gritty of stories.

Wait-and-see pa rin about the investigation results. Word is, the investigation group was there to clear Mitsu of the emissions scandal... I think if they covered SUA, that was just incidental.

Mitsubishi PH releases third-party report on alleged SUA incidents
by Dinzo Tabamo
Horiba Mira started its investigation in June 2016 and released its formal findings in September 2016, which states:
“The investigation has found only one plausible root cause for sudden unintended acceleration, and inability to stop the Mitsubishi Montero Sport vehicle. Our hypothesis is that these incidents were caused by the driver mistakenly applying the accelerator, believing that they were pressing the brake pedal.
“Other root cause hypotheses have been excluded because they would require simultaneous, but temporary, malfunction of both the engine control and the vehicle braking system without fault conditions being logged by any vehicle systems and DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Code) being recorded. Since these are independent systems, the possibility of simultaneous failure is extremely low.Last edited by Monseratto; January 5th, 2017 at 11:45 AM.

January 19th, 2017 06:54 AM #3466Horiba Mira's report is a BIG JOKE. From HM report:
"Supply voltage sampling is used for the following functions:
Linear solenoid control for VGT – Look-up table based, only for high power 4D56 engine.
Electric throttle valve – Look-up table based compensation to ensure throttle remains fully open on the diesel
engines while running. Erroneous control can only lead to reduced air-flow.
EGR valve position control – Look-up table compensation. Affects air only, not fuelling.
There is no compensation on injectors or fuel pressure based on supply voltage."
Its NOT TRUE that "There is no compensation on injectors (or fuel pressure) based on supply voltage." According to Denso's (Mitsu's supplier) service manual, voltage compensation / correction is being used for injection timing.
Here's the link of the 4d56 service manual: http://www.service-engine.com.ua/web...0%20TRITON.pdf
See Chapter 11 section 2 item (3)
11. FUEL INJECTION TIMING CONTROL
11.2 Main and Pilot Injection Timing Control
(3) Injection Timing Calculation Method
See the block diagram? [2] Injection Timing Calculation Method.
VOLTAGE CORRECTION (or Voltage Compensation) is part of the corrections that being applied for fuel injection timing.

January 19th, 2017 07:43 AM #3467Horiba Mira's report have inconsistencies. Their assessment that "There is no compensation on injectors or fuel pressure based on supply voltage.". When in fact, the 45d6 service manual is showing that voltage correction is being applied to fuel injection timing. Link to the service manual: http://www.service-engine.com.ua/web...0%20TRITON.pdf
There are SUA theories that links to voltage compensation / voltage correction function. And Horiba Mira, in their report, rejected the theory based on their inaccurate assessment.

2015 GLX models refer to non VGT models. Kaya may AT at MT versions.

HORIBA MIRA (HR) REPORT REVIEW-PART 01
GENERAL STATISTICS ON SUA
#horibamirasua
This is Part 01 in a series of posts focusing on interpreting the contents of the HR report on Mitsubishi’s self-sponsored SUA investigation.
The skeptics have claimed that the 200+ reports on SUA have been grossly exaggerated. Former Top Gear Philippines editor-in chief Vernon Sarne has been insinuating that these reports are part of a very organized conspiracy to taint Mitsubishi’s reputation. Hence, the massive number of SUA reports are the results of a media fueled controversy.
So what exactly does the HR report say about the exact statistics on SUA?
In page 8 of the HR report, sections have been highlighted as follows:
***At the point of starting this investigation, the number of incidents reported totalled 212 of which most are Montero Sport vehicles***
This tallies with the figures being stated in this FB site. So the 200+ reported accidents is consistent with what the HR report states. The number of reported SUA incidents are therefore NOT BEING EXHAGERATED.
***6 being Strada vehicles***
It’s interesting to note that 6 of these 212 report are from Strada. So a connection with the Montero Sport is being implied…
***SUA events have been reported with most major brands of automobile. Incident rates are typically 120 ppm based on data for 1998 to 2010 model years (Compton, 2010) including Toyota
For the Mitsubishi Montero Sport vehicles, there have been 212
incidents within the Philippines out of a population of 91,347 vehicles. This equates to an incident rate of 2320 ppm***
Take a close look at the statistics: 120ppm for SUA reports in the USA vs 2320ppm for Montero Sport alone here in the Philippines. This means SUA reports here in the Philippines 20x higher than other countries! Mitsubishi and Horiba Mira also seem to be implying that the 20x higher incident rate is PURELY COINCIDENTAL.
At a rate of 20x higher and only being reported on the Montero Sport, wouldn’t the claim of 100% driver error be unusual?
Page 109 of this report indicates that there are 0% reports on SUA on other Mitsubishi brands. Isn’t it too much of a coincidence that the majority of stupid drivers here in the Philippines are those who use Monteros?
FYI, 2320ppm equates to “1 out of 431 Monteros” to be of suspected risk of SUA…
Finally, take important note that since the release of the 2016 Montero, there have been 0% reports of SUA on such model. If this was really a very organized conspiracy to taint Mitsubishi’s reputation, would not the 2016 Montero also be a target of this smear campaign?
As expected, in response to Tesla’s entry into the Philippines market, Ford will be bringing in the...
