The problem with this theory is that when an engine is under load straining against the brakes, you should notice it. The torque converters on these machines only lock up at about 2000 rpm, so an observant driver would notice it "idling" at twice the normal idle speed.

I've experienced the anti-stall function on the Focus. It will bump it to about 1.5k, but not any higher. We used to play a game with the manual TDCi where we would shift into gear while parked, and drive around without using the gas pedal... just the clutch.

But there is an idea there... if perhaps the system over-reacts to a perceived stall... it could temporarily bump up the revs too high... but such a situation has never been replicated/simulated under controlled testing.
the newer CRDi engines coupled with MT can really run without stepping on the gas pedal. The torque is just that nice, even as mentioned, TDiC engine can do this with ease if unladen.

ndi ba kaya nagloko mga ECU's ng ito kaya yung gas pedal ay brake and yung brake ay naging gas pedal ? baka bumaliktad cya .... pero if this happens, dapat taasin agad handbrake and try to remove the keys asap

Malabo yan pre, dapat sana sa planta pa lang nakita na yan due to the testings and as has been done by Mitsu engineers nga.

ECU failure is a long shot

even lesser than the .002% incidents of "sudden acceleration", IMHO

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! My wife also experienced the same incident. It was happened in 2010 last year. She was driving our Montero Sports going to Sta Ana OB Montessori to drop my kids there. When they reached the school and tried to stop inside the compound, she noticed that she can't stop the Car. She repeatedly step on the break but the car didnt stop and continue moving forward. She got nervous and told the kids to sit down and hold tight because the car keeps on moving forward even she is stepping on the brake already.
She let the car moving in a circular motion while trying to stop it by stepping on the brake. But it did not stopped and instead started running faster. She decided to drive it out of the school compound and hit on a small concrete post and dragged on the side of the road to stop the car.. The Driver's airbag exploded, one of the front wheel ripped off and the new mag wheels was damaged. Thanks god! my wife and my kids are safe. This incident was reported and recorded with Sta Ana Police Station.

i think true talaga itong case . may nagpapa trigger ng sudden acceleration ng montero, ndi lang alam kun ano .... yung uncle ko naman may shop sa banawe, kwento naman nya may montero naka park sa tabi nya pero facing the road. itong si mekaniko nya may inaayos yata sa sa stereo, then suddendy biglang nag rev ng malakas yung montero and bumanga sa tapat na car. this happened few months ago sa banawe...

scary but true ... dapat yata may presence of mind tyo, if may mangyareng sudden revs, turn off the ignition and akyatin yung handbrake pag ndi gumagana yung brake pedals.

or better if bumili na lang ng manual transmittion ng montero kasi pag bigla cya mag rev ng mataas then just put the gear to neutral so the car wont move.

not sure lang yung case ni super_clr na kun automatic yung sasakyan , why his wife did not put the gear to neutral to prevent the car from moving

sorry to hear about it but it does not seem to be a case of "sudden acceleration" but brake failure? what happened to the hand brake, did it fail also?

i would be interested to know what mitusbishi's findings were, if you can share it

nagaayos ang mekaniko sa stereo na umaandar ang makina? di kaya nasagi niya ang A/T from N to D?

And since electric din nagpapagana sa ECU, hindi kaya nagalaw yun or nag-ground. Sana may findings din na ma-post. 'Di puwede hulaan lang kung bakit nangyari yan eh.
