Almost 10k kms and 4 months, only the steering column.

Di ba, dapat sir eh pag naka park ka dapat naka hand brake din and dapat naka brake pati prior to engage to R or N or D.

Sabi kasi in A/T: At Engine stop, na ka Park and Hand Brake positions

    sequence to D or R:

    1) Engine Start
    2) Step Brake
    3) Engage to whether Reverse or Drive
    4) Release Hand Brake
    5) Release Brake
    6) Accelarate

    Sequence to STOP.

    1) Deccelarate
    2) Brake to full stop
    3) Engage to Park
    4) Hand brake

sundin mo kaya sir para smooth ang A/T engaging... korek me if my wrong sir.. HTC..

greetings to everyone. i hope the problems of your units are not very serious. i will still get one, despite some concerns, wag lang sana matapatan ng lemon.

here are some issues i raised with a senior service tech of Mitsubishi diamond Motors:

    1. moisture in the headlights

the 1st few hundred units sold in the philippines had this problem. the first explanation given was that the climate in Japan and in the Philippines are totally different. the Hot weather easily degraded the seals around each headlight, thus allowing moisture to seep in and build up on the lens. teka muna, e di ba sa Thailand ginagawa most of the parts of the Montero? hindi naman made in Japan ang headlights...sino ba pinagloloko ng Mitsubishi?

the fix: Mitsubishi changed the seals in Thailand, and hopefully the 2010 models are not going to experience this anymore.

    2. popping courtesy doorlamps:

this happened to some unfortunate owners. when you exert more than the usual force to close the doors, some cortesy doorlamps popped out of the sockets, onto the carpet, or worse, onto the ground when you open the doors again. the culprit is the short pins anchoring the plastic lens onto the side of the sockets. again, made in Thailand.

the fix: Mitsubishi changed the subcontractor for the lens covers and specified longer pins for anchorage. they claim that this will not affect the 2010 models anymore. i do hope so.

    3. backing up on an incline:

unlike other cars or SUVs, the montero sport does not come with Hill Start Assist, nor the Hill Descent control. instances where you feel like sliding down when you take your foot off the brakes in an attempt to step on the gas does happen in the Montero. Hill start assist and descent control is not a new technology as it has been around with Isuzu, Honda, Subaru. malas lang walang ganyan sa Montero.

the fix: Mitsubishi's advice is for us to use the handbrake!

    4.the annoying loud thud:

this is what the service technicians call backlash. this is not unique to the montero. other diesel engines suffer also, though much much softer. unfortunately, it is so loud that rear passengers would sometimes think na "para raw nabangga" ---this came from the Service tech's mouth
the transmission, and power sent to the rear wheels is the culprit. as power is sent to the rear wheels, be it 4X4 or 4X2, this thud will always be there, if coming from an incline. medyo bitin yata ang traction when power is still being sent to the rear wheels. wala akong alam sa aspect na yan ng RWDs pero yan ang best explanation nila. or baka pinapasakay lang ako?

    the fix: there isn't any!.....

    5. steering column:

this is the sound some units have when turning left or right, from a midline position of the wheels. sometimes, even during at a resting position. the problem is the joint(?) of the steering colums as it is composed of at least 3 subunits. not sure bout that. some units were already replaced. it will not come to a point of breakage, but we can never be too sure. have yours replaced if you are not satisfied as this has been on top of their customer complaints.

the fix: Mitsubishi Thailand ordered the fabrication of new steering columns to replace those units sold in 2008/2009....they are claiming that 2010 models will no longer be affected because the newer units have already been fitted with the entirely new steering columns. i have a friend whou bought a 2010 3.2 SE mid-Feb from Diamond motors. he had his steering wheel column repalced last week. we can never be too sure with what Mitsubishi is telling us.

i am not from mitsubishi. i am waiting for my unit to come. these were just issues i back-read from the voluminous pages of this threadwhich i decided to investigate further. thanks for all the info on certain issues. these were very helpful!

next thread: figures of PMS for the 2.5 4X2 using fully synthetic oil

    more power to tsikot!!

ISSUES FOR THE MONTERO SPORT. Please post them here.
