Nope Norm; I never said its CG was lower than the SF, I said it was one of the lowest in it's class. I said that its suspension has greater travel, so empty it is a lot higher than the SF as it travels up less; so empty the difference is more than 5mm. But the last bit is wrong
Explanation: The MS's Ground Clearance actually never changes unless on rough terain (like over ruts in the landscape). This is due to the fact that it has a live rear axle and the axle housing (the round bit in the middle with the diff) always remains 215mm from the road (unless one wheel is in a hole or rutt) and is the lowest point in almost all live axle 4x4s. But the body itself does go up and down and so the CG goes up and down. All vehicles with suspensions' CG changes as it is loaded.
The SF on the otherhand has independent rear suspension, so its ground clearance as well as CG changes according to weight.

Sounds about right guys. The press get to test drive it on the 18th of February. That is not to say some buyers won't have theirs already in their front driveway before that. Maybe my new BLACK SE will be one of them.

January 26th, 2011 07:13 AM #107So the 5mm difference is only applicable when you put the maximum load on the 2 vehicles. Do I get it right? Sta Fe empty it is will also be much higher than 210? right?
Geez I slightly understand only a bit hahaha... Anyway to me it looks like the montero is higher than its rivals such as fort and everest. But then it turned out like I shouldn't rely on what I see...
