As for your ASX being overweight, it is about the same as the Lancer EX GTA 2.0L so it's not really overweight.

It seems it has no foglights or it got replaced with LED? May white rectangular rin kasi.

It looks even meaner and better IMO!

Haven't heard but the ASX with 1.8L diesel is available in other countries.

My fear is the potential higher SRP of the diesel variant might just kill the sales potential.

The other day, bored and with a full tank of gas, I decided to drive through twisting roads of Tanay, Rizal to see the handling and performance potential of the Mitsubishi ASX.

Right at the start, the ASX seems to be a little short of breath if I leave the shifter to "D" and simply flooring the accelerator. Overtaking other cars would require me to engage manual mode and downshift to get enough ooomph. But once into gear, overtaking is done quickly and without much drama. Although not the most fuel efficient way, the best gears to tackle the twisting roads are 2nd and 3rd, which are the same with the Lancer EX.

To prevent overheating the brakes, especially in the descent portions, I used quite a bit of engine braking. I do notice that engine braking is not as pronounced with the ASX as on other vehicles with conventional A/Ts.

Given my tires are still the stock tires the ASX came with (width 205 I think), I didn't push my speed much in the corners, keeping it maxed at around 80kph right between entry and exits. (In comparison, my Lancer EX had wider 235 tires which enabled me to corner at 100kph on the same corners.) With the zigzag portions where the road quickly shifts from right to left (or vice versa), I had to take extra care with the side-to-side weight shifts of the ASX especially with the stock suspension a little soft for comfort. Even then, the ASX performed well through the entire two hour round trip drive through the beautiful countryside.

Gusto ko lang po share kASXer's

Last holy wed I went up to baguio to spend my weekend using my asx..going up using kennon road was just an ease..engaging it from 2wd to 4wd and (asc always "on"), cause it was raining at that time, let me feel how the tires hug the wet pavement,even in cornering, giving me the confidence to overtake big trucks and slow moving vehicle..although the FC was increased due to 4wd mode from 11km/li when i was at the foot of kennon road, became 10.3km/li when i arrived home..

this morning ( 2:30 am), i went down going back to bataan using kennon road again, putting it in 2wd (asc on), when i reached the foot of kennon road, my FC was 20.8km/li... i know the road was going down, little gas is needed to propel my asx, but i was amazed i have that kind of FC..i was even overtaking cargo jeep and truck(vegetable dealers)..of course it went down to 13.3 km/li when i was traveling at low lands..

* sctex, i was traveling 120 kph at 2100 rpm...
