December 9th, 2013 03:45 PM #13Happened the same thing to me at NLEX.
The rock fell from a dump truck and was about to bounce off the road. It was the two-lane part of NLEX somewhere north so I cannot zig zag like you. What I did was accelerated more and try to catch the rock to bounce under the vehicle. It didn't happen. It caught the bumper but there was minimal damage.
Braking was not option. Either, it will catch our windshield or the vehicle behind us will bump us.

happened din to me mga 8 years ago. biglang sumabog yung rear tire nung truck na nasakanan ko. nabasag front and rear passenger windows. the impact was so big that i lost control of the car...

Even is kasalubong mo sila, be wary, create as much distance kasi hindi lang patalikod talsik nang bato kapag nadaanan nila. I've seen sideways and frontal bounces of rocks that are enough to cause considerable damage to windshield that the only proper recourse is get a new one. That is expensive.

Never drive too close to an AUV or other tall vehicles on provincial roads, especially if you are driving a sedan (lower or unlowered).
It is possible for the AUV to drive OVER cat-sized rocks on the road and if you drive over that same rock with your car, it will knock dents and holes under your car from front to back. It might even crack your oil pan or tranny housing.
In my case, I couldn't avoid the said rock and my car hit it solidly as I felt the car lift up and landed hard as the rock made its way under my car. A quick inspection showed I had a fluid leaking under the engine. I stopped at the first gas station and had my car lifted for a better inspection of the damage(s). A small hole in the power steering system was the source of the leak and was patched after an hour.
I have seen another car (Honda Accord) where the damage was a misaligned exhaust system causing the oxygen sensor to fail.
