*A121: I'm exaggerating of course! The class supergeniuses get 90%+, so it ain't impossible.

To sum it all, nasa palaki talaga ng magulang yan sa mga anak.
Pag nakitaan ng bata ang magulang ng mabuti/masama na ugali, mas malamang ganon din ang gagawin sa kapwa mapa sa school o kahit saan man.

I totally agree. Anyway, sorry for making the thread a little sober. It's true I had a rough start and some of my worst memories were during those early years. But, the HS years that followed afterwards were also the best years of my life.

I'm trying to figure out if I have my high schools categorized correctly. After all, it's been a long time. I thought I knew which ones were which. But now, I'm thinking maybe I didn't. I was assuming that all Catholic schools are sectarian. But, that may not be the case.

Naturally, most of them will be from the South Metro since that's where I lived then plus a few others I was familiar with through friends and sports.

From memory I recall the following schools.
Jesus Good Shepherd School - exclusive girls HS
    Imus Institute - coed
    St. Paul - exclusive girls
    St. Andrew - exclusive boys
    St Joseph Academy - coed
Benedictine Abbey (San Beda now?) - coed?
    Manresa - ?
University of Perpetual Help - coed
    La Salle Zobel - coed
    La Salle GH - coed
    Don Bosco - exclusive boys
    Xavier GH - exclusive boys?
    UST - coed
    San Agustin - coed?
    Assumption - exclusive girls?
    International School - coed

Of those, I'm certain Xavier's a Jesuit school. International School's non-sectarian. The rest, I'm not really sure.

I also don't buy into whether one HS is better than the other bit. When I enrolled in Mapua back then, many of my classmates were from "prestigious" high schools. That didn't seem to help many of them any. As it turned out many were kicked out right after the 1st semester. By the time I started my major, only 4 of the original 50+ in my freshman class remained and that included myself.
+1 on this...i had classmates from that prestigious school in dasma who didnt show very good performance in academics...some are from this and that HS...tanungan pa ng tanungan kung san ka galing..then they'll ask me, sang skul ka galing??then will say, san yun? i would always answer sa timbuktu..but hey, i also got my share of glory in Mapua and well...those classmates?? er.....

As far as the choices #3 and #4, I'm not a big fan of exclusive boys and girls schools because it limits social interaction with others. I don't believe that that the exclusiveness of the school really matters it's the ability and interest of the child in learning that's important. My daughter currently attends public school here in the US after attending San Beda Alabang in the Philippines. I know she has been exposed to more things here as far as different cultures, expriences, etc. than she did in the Philippines just from the people she interacts with on a daily basis. Her friends are Filipino, Afghan, Pakistani, Indian, Chinese, Black, White, Mexican, and Latin Americans that cultural exposure alone is better than what any exclusive school can offer because it teaches her to be tolerant of others regardless of who or what they are. Would we allow her to attend school in the Philippines if she wanted? Sure but it wouldn't be an exclusive girls school regardless of which country. Besides my mom who attended St. Theresa's College an all girls school also thinks it a bad idea.

I recall being in 4th or 5th grade and my parents were debating about sending me to Brent School in the Philippines. I was excited about it until I found out they wore uniforms at which point I vetoed the idea and opted to stay in the US public school system instead.

in case, some of you dont know. malaki daw ang percentage na na-involve ang mga filipina wives sa mga teacher ng schools ng kids nila. another percentage eh pag nasa toy kingdom o toys r us. incidentally, pinasyal ko 4 yr old pamangkin ko sa Toy Kingdom. rare breed pala mga adult males duon na may kasama bata. the mothers/wives are really looking to you in the eye, with this flirty glare.

I really learn something new everyday.
EEK!!! buti na lang graduate na maglaro mga anak ko....

kaso araw-araw din ako sa gym!!OB!!!

just to share an experience...6 lang kaming babae sa klase during 1styr/1st sem..2 ang galing st.paul's pque..ako isang hamak na batang cainta..kaming tatlo lagi magkakasama..some guys from the class na galing st.andrews(?) asked me one time.."paulinian ka rin?" kako hindi...then they said.."ah ok (with matching thumbs up).."kala namin paulinian ka, kasi pag paulinian....."

this is not to offend the school..pero siguro this answers kung bakit hindi ko option magpa-aral ng anak in an exclusive school.
