I take it you did some hanky panky while you were working in the govt sector. Bless your heart that you have turned away from sins. :)

Me and my wife are accountants. I dont know how much she earns but she saves very little too if any. Her salary goes towards her and my parents allowance. Medyo matagal pa titiisin namin. We have 3 kids ages 9, 4 and 3. I earn more than my wife but her job is more stable than me, per contract lang as i do consultancy jobs for foreign govt aid. I have a 7 year old gas guzzler, ave of 4.5L/km. we do make sure that we pay our househelp handsomely kasi mapagkakatiwalaan sila. They love our kids like their own. Yung isa 7.5k per mo, yung isa 5.5k kasi ang bonus nya, nakatira sa amin ng libre pati yung mr nya who is one of the ground supervisors sa naia expressway project. Free transpo pa si kuya every morning pag papasok na kami sumasabay sa amin. Kaya sa ngayon, wala pa savings. Higpit sinturon :-)

When people say no savings is it really zero cash (that is not meant for spending) in the bank? Eg 100k that you never touch
Re: What is your average monthly expenses and how much do you save?
Sa ngayon, one should Earn at least 100k per month... For Tuition, car loan, housing loan, utilities, food, clothing, insurance... Gas and toll fees... Cellphone load, and hobbies mo pa...

For me, savings is a nest egg that you will not touch unless under dire need. We have some money in the bank but those are for upcoming expenditures like tuition and other school fees for next year. We are at least lucky that my wife's company provides excellent medical benefits. When you have kids, medical expenses is another area that you have to factor in, and they are not cheap. A 3 day hospitalization for a simple illness can go as high as 50k depending on the hospital.
Re: What is your average monthly expenses and how much do you save?
Savings is anything you can spend anytime without worrying you cannot pay for the next bills to come. :)

My wife is an accountant as well and we maintain an app that records all the income and expense at any given day plus a dashboard that would show us the running balance of the bank accounts, investments, credit cards and bills to pay. It also provides statistical reports of your spending by category and if you are meticulous enough, a budget and a cash flow forecast. The app can be installed on both android and apple devices and syncs real time. So when we spend on something it shows up on my screen as well as on my wife's device as well. So wala talagang lusot ang gastos ko unless I have an undeclared income na hindi ko nilagay sa app or misdeclare the expenses as something else like work related or car repairs. But then that is creative accounting already. :)
