i find it confusing, when the news reports indicate heavy flooding in manila, a distance of less than 5 km from where we live. and it's not even drizzling here and our lavender is busy doing the laundry downstairs.

a weird phenomenon is when I am driving in the provincial highway and it's raining, then about 100 metres after, there's totally no rain.

The PH forecasters don't have any chance of rain starting at the airport until around 11 AM and lasting through the rest of the afternoon and early evening. Even then, they're mostly showery which means they rain in spots and not the whole metro. There's a wave offshore that may come in tonight. That one can bring more widespread rain.

A forecaster needs a lot of tools and the experience to know the weaknesses of each tool. I had all that and 30+ years on the job. When I retired from the military years ago, I had a 95% accuracy rate with my forecasts.

Nowadays, I just brief somebody else's forecast to our clients and tell them where the storms are. Then, when the clients go home, I close shop and go home too. Let the younger folks deal with the stress of forecasting. I'm very lucky to still have my hair and in fairly good health. So many of my peers have already lost their hair and getting fat.

Rain showers. Like this, for example. It's raining and thundering over the mountain. But, it's sunny where I am. Even rain showers have boundaries.

Sunny and humid here now, with occassional, violent gusts. No rain since that drizzly before 7am

I don't forecast for that region though. I can if I have access to all the tools I need. But, that's not going to happen. I can only do what everybody else here can do which is go over to the PAGASA Web site. He He.

Actually, I don't forecast or observe anymore. I just brief people nowadays. No stress and if something goes wrong with the weather, we blame somebody else.

That tornado in Manila is a bad sign. That means tornadoes are bsck in the Philippines. There were a few recorded tornadoes in the Spanish era and concentrated at one period in our history.

Tsk tsk, may kinalaman kaya ito sa mga experiments ng foreign military sa south china sea?
