Weather agencies in SEA region all point to a no landfall forcast... except PAGASA. Hope PAGASA is proven wrong. But better for Yumul to be safe than sorry and out of the job...

    'Chedeng' now a typhoon | Sun.Star

    Wednesday, May 25, 2011

MANILA (Updated 11:25 a.m.) -- The state weather bureau has upgraded Tropical Storm Chedeng (international codename: Songda) into a typhoon Wednesday.

In a press briefing, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said as of 10 a.m., the eye of Typhoon Chedeng was at 350 kilometers east of Catarman, Northern Samar.

Chedeng is expected to make landfall in Aurora and Isabela on Friday afternoon and will leave the country by Sunday morning, Pagasa added.

Science and Technology Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr. earlier warned that Chedeng would bring heavy rainfall when it makes its landfall.

He said it might affect wide areas, including Metro Manila.

Yumul said Pagasa is expecting 18 to 21 typhoons to hit the country this year as compared to 11 in 2010.

He said the public may expect more intensified typhoons in the coming three to four months considering that these are the period when typhoons hit the archipelago.

Pagasa advised residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by the tropical cyclone. (Sunnex)

Yup,- I think that's what he wants to do. If there's still a chance that it could hit MM (like he was saying that a few hours before, it is going more westerly)- he would mention it so that everyone's on their toes.

    Better safe than sorry.....

I have a question hinde ko maintindihan eh, ang mga Paranaque, Muntinlupa, Las Pinas...technically they are under NCR, but based on location dapat Laguna, Cavite or RIzal ang dapat sundin ng residents na forecast and not NCR. tama ba ako?
