SENATOR Gregorio Honasan conceded that his political plans were in limbo with a coup d'etat charge filed against him in connection with a military coup attempt in July.

Honasan said he was excited at embarking on a "fifth career" as a university professor teaching ethics and politics "maybe in the University of the Philippines or some obscure university in Bicol," his rural home region southeast of Manila.

The 51-year-old former Army colonel was born in the province of Sorsogon in Bicol.

Speaking at a media forum, he listed the different careers he has had: "a soldier, a rebel, a peace advocate and now a senator."

He said he wanted to solve his "legal problems" first before thinking about what to do about the elections just six months away.

He had previously said that he intended to run for president in May.
