Accordingly, the issue with the advocates of global warming is that their data is of recent history. It also has not considered that the sun, which is mainly responsible for the temperature in our planet, is variable.
Pero, let's do our own share....

Let's not even talk about catastrophic climate change.
Let's just talk about weather. Weather that we are happy with.
How many days in 1 year are we really happy about the weather?
Kung hindi sobra init, umuulan.
Buti pa ang mga ibang creatures sa mundo, kahit anong weather, life goes on.
Tayo, pag bumagyo, everything stops. Pag wala power, pag wala telephones, pag wala internet, things grind to a halt and life becomes totally unbearable.
We live in a comfort zone that is sustained by very fragile infrastructure. That infrastructure works best in perfect weather. We dont need climate change or global warming to screw that up. Just a few more typhoons a year.
We experienced a typhoon last year called Milenyo. It was hell.
A minor shift in ocean temp can give us more of those.
We dont need doomsday type scenarios to screw up our lives. Just a little more rain and a little more wind.

I was able to catch a news at CNN about an airline's fight against global warming (airplanes contribute a lot of CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere) wherein part of the proceeds they get from their customers goes to a foundation which will help in the fight against global warming. Its a noble move (considering that they are not the only airline in the world) on their part but isn't prevention better than the cure?

Anything that burns contributes to greenhouse gases that causes global warming. Even lighting up a cigarette.
We will always be burning stuff and we cant live without burning stuff.

June 2nd, 2007 03:49 PM #17AFAIK there is a natural amount of carbon (CO2 included) in the atmosphere. The problem is that fossil fuels weren't IN the atmosphere to begin with -- they were underground. Yes, kung may maimbentong machine to suck out carbon and put it underground that'll solve the problem -- pero mahirap yata yun. :-)Regarding trees, I read the book and strangely enough only young trees/forests have a positive contribution to carbon reduction such as those that grew after all the clearing done by the US pioneer settlers. Older trees DAW are carbon neutral since what carbon they consume they also 'shed'. Trees have more benefits than just carbon reduction though kaya having more trees is better. The biggest 'consumer' of carbon is the ocean. The only problem is hindi na niya kayang sipsipin lahat ng carbon na prino-produce natin. Perhaps, global warming will produce more ocean surface which combined with the depletion of fossil fuel resources, can restore the balance (masakit ito pero medyo self-limiting pa din). Ang problema, ano na energy source natin?

hmmm. didnt know that. the ocean sucks carbon from the atmosphere.
so that'll only mean mother earth will just create more ocean. eh yun na nga talaga ang solution, melt the polar ice caps, to have more water.
hay it's inevitable talaga. I just wish this does not happen in a 100 years pa.

as oldblue said it's inevitable. consider this...
the rotting trees in the jungles of amazon contributes more to global warming than the combined emissions of all cars in the united states, according to a recent study.
the explosion of mount pinatubo affected the environment around the world for the last 15 years than all the industrial emmissions generated for the last 15 years.
climate has changed for the past thousands of years without man having anything to do with it. there was the ice age, with no vehicle running at the time before it happened.
there are those who believe that man contributes so little to global warming. and countries are spending so much on it, money that could have been used to develop future technologies.
that is why they are still debating whether man's role is significant or whether there is something we can do in the first place.

another good movie to watch is Al Gore's documentary " An Inconvenient Truth " ....
and yes , there are factories now that are spending extra on technology which will pull the carbon coming out of their smokestacks and burying it below ground.
... and since this is a motoring site ; available na ba ang hybrid cars dito sa pinas ? sana naman magkaroon ng tax incentives
