Ano ba difference ng security guards, maintenance guys, sales ladies, bank clerks, street sweepers, drivers etc. sa maids and yayas? Those who say that maids and/or yayas shouldn't wear uniforms are the one's who are discriminating against them. You are the ones who are actually degrading their nature of work.
I don't require our maids to wear uniforms. I don't require my yaya to wear a uniform. But it was the yaya herself who requested to be issued uniforms. Like one of the post above, mas nahihiya ang yaya kapag sariling damit ang suot nya when going to malls, parties, etc.
Some of you would say that requiring a yaya to wear a uniform in public places is a way for the employers to differentiate them from the yaya. E kahit walang uniform naman siguro yung yaya, halatang yaya pa rin because of the difference in skin color especially if sobrang puti mga amo.
My yaya now doesn't wear uniforms any more. Halos kasing dami na yata ng clothes ng wife ko mga damit nya. Wala naman kaming pakialam if she wants to wear a uniform or not, wala lang akong nakikitang mali in wearing a uniform.
She's been with us for 10yrs already. With her salary (which is not meager btw), she was able to support the studies of her siblings, her nephews and nieces, medicines and hospitalizations of her family. Nakabili sya iPod touch and smartphones. She has her very own room in our house, not in the maid's quarters, but a room in the 2nd floor inside our house.
We don't actually need a yaya anymore for the kids since malalaki na mga anak ko, but one of my sons requires special attention kasi that's why we still employ her as yaya. Gusto nga sana namin ilipat sa office to do office works dahil talagang mapagkakatiwalaan sya. But we need her more at home than in the office.Signature

I don't think there's anything subjective here. If you think about it, a uniform isn't derogatory -- from maids, to waiters, to even your neighborhood septic tank cleaner.
It's a work code, a work ethic, a professional attire. I don't know why people even bother to judge. That's like judging your principal that he has uncool taste just because your high school mandated you wear a white shirt and khaki pants. If he was requiring you grow a hair like Elvis Presley then now you can protest since it affects your public image.
At our workplace for instance.. the upper management and sales doesn't really have duty uniforms - we're pretty open here. Dalawa lang naman yun rules: no shorts, no tsinelas. Full-time employees, on the otherhand, has a choice of wearing their uniforms or they can simply go casual. Statistically speaking, more than 90% of the time, they wear their uniforms. And this isn't just your typical off-the-rack SML uniforms, these are actually made-to-measure to their body characteristics and fits them very well.Last edited by jhnkvn; February 24th, 2014 at 12:21 PM.

I apply this rule di lang sa waiter but also sa iba pa lalo na yung naggugupit ng buhok ko. Mahirap na baka biglang makalbo ako.

February 24th, 2014 09:24 PM #48basta ako naniniwala sa sinabi ng nanay ko, lalo na nung nagbibinata na ako at nagkakagusto na sa babae, "kung gusto mo malaman ang totoong ugali, kausapin mo ang katulong. that's when they let their guards down."

I'm extra nice to people who work in service but I was losing my patience at these waiters because they got EVERYTHING wrong. To make matters worse, we followed up several times and the food of the group that came at least 20 mins after we arrived were served earlier.
Apparently the waiter forgot to forward our order. We were starving and no water pa considering that the place had few guests. So I asked the waiter (for the last time) "Why is it taking so long?" My SO tapped my arm below the table and said "it's okay, it's okay" So I smiled at the waiter and told him please follow up. And then my SO told me, don't be masungit. I told him I was not being masungit. It does not help that I have a resting btch face so I seem masungit when I am not smiling.
It made me think, mas mainitin pa ulo ko sa SO ko. He has more patience and a kindness that I do. Which is nice
