Finally, malamig na rin ang buong bahay.

Was in hell last night because electricity thieves overloaded and blew up the main power line in our area around 7pm. I didn't realize na pwede pala mangyari yun sa isang industrial zone (where power lines are beefed up for heavy draw). Grabe sobrang init ang hirap matulog naawa ako sa mga anak ko that I did not sleep. Bakla naman yung dumating na tga Meralco ayaw umakyat ng bubong para ayusin yung naputol. Sobrang simple lang ng gagawin tumawag pa ng contractor. Imagine, we were lending all our equipment and assistance sa kanya para ayusin lang pero sabi babalik agad. Ang walanghiya, di na pala babalik, 9am na inayos ng third party contractor. Pinaypayan ko na lang sila buong magdamag gamit ang plastic board. 18" x 21". Nangalay ako kaya hinati ko na lang so I had to exert more reps to move the same amount of air. If I only knew na next morning pala aayusin, we should have booked a hotel. Kaso nalaman ko midnight na and the missus is already asleep.

To top it off, there was no wind last night. As in the air was so still. Sarap sana kung umuulan man lang.

I realized, I have to redesign the house, and use this experience for the future houses we'll build for ourselves and customers. Dwellings should be designed with the idea that power isn't always there (i.e. the ventanillas of provincial houses). It has to be independent of electricity that power will just supplement or better it that it will not be like living in hell once a power outage occurs.

Or buy a stand-by gen-set, good enough to power a room aircon and a few lights.

Maybe sa next house. Di pwede ngayon dito because the noise would definitely disturb houses near us - unless i can find a super duper silent type. Been looking for a genset for quite a while and encountered "inverter" models. Still finding out what it exactly is.

For our climate, the "bahay na bato" (i.e. the old Vigan houses) are one of the best when it comes to vernacular architecture. Large windows, high roof, cross ventilation, ventanillas, etc...
