one can not really say they don't have the stomach for it, if they haven't tried it first.

My Dad rarely asks me anything but he wanted me to be a doctor. I told him I can't talaga, I hate being in the hospital (smell pa lang gives me a bad feeling), I get depressed around sick people (I kinda absorb it) and I do not wanna study 10 years. And yes, not everyone has the stomach for it. I might end up having a nervous breakdown after x number of my patients that died.

The next best thing is to marry a doctor but I did not do that as well haha!

I think you'll be fine with cosmetic or plastic surgery. implants etc.. lol

some doctors like anesthesiologists see horrifying stuff but they're not there to "carve" up people

I prefer internal medicine.

plus, many of them are walking examples of their craft.

or psychiatry!
when we found out how much our classmate made, we wanted to follow him.

or pathology!
clinical pathologists see patients only occasionally. they see mostly the laboratory.

You do know that plastics is one of the hardest sub-specs to get into right?

Getting into General Surgery residency in the first place is already ultra-competitive. GS is where all the type As and ultra-achievers typically go. Longer residency than most (5 yrs vs 3). Then plastic surgery as a subspec has very few slots because few institutions offer it.

In general, any cutting specialization (surgery, ophtha, OB) are harder to get into and more cutthroat than other specializations.

Even derma is a relatively difficult residency program to get into. Few institutions are certified by POGS. And because derma is relatively chill (typically no duty just OPD) and payout is quite high, many top med students looking for a balanced life go into derma.

it's not the training program.
it's how you want to spend the rest of your life.
after the lengthiest and trying part of residency training, comes "the rest of your life". this usually lasts much longer and is typically more challenging than any training program.

if one thinks about it,
residency program is the good life... one has a regular salary and one can hide under the teacher's protective gown.
going out into the populace to practice... that's the scary part. out there, there are no promises. one is on his own.
i am nothing but in all admiration, for our colleagues who dared to practice in the rural areas.

that's the first thing i did, once my warranty lapsed.

It's what I did before but going to casa has some advantages for me, like the waiting time to be attended to can be bearable due to the comfort of an aircon and free WiFi, once set, I can go home and just come back when it's ready. Plus it was cheaper before and using a less viscous oil and original filter with a new crush washer. Anyway, I just do it 1.5x a year.
