The concept is great. Portability is a big plus. How the computer companies be able to add power and memory in such a tight package will be the big question.

Never a problem for the tech companies.

Easier to manufacture pa ang Tablet kasi no moving parts.

if it was just me then i'd say it's fad coz i dont really see it's uselessfulness.

i know people who really needs these things. yung friend ko, may ipad and it's very useful for her. di lang kase pang browse ng facebook or something or games, di lang entertainment device. she uses it for her work, ginagamit nya rin for presentation and all.

as for me talaga, i really dont find it useful. i prefer the a small laptop than these tablets. tempting nga bumili ng ipad, pero if i have one naisip ko gagamitin ko lang sya pang browse ng internet, waste of money. i'd rather get the macbook air rather than an ipad. as for the galaxy tab, im already using its 4inch version so parang waste of money uli

Not a fad anymore. I hear acer will discontinue it's netbook lines and will start pushing for tablets.

It's defining the market. Last year niche market yan pero now bumabago na. A little more wait and see attitude (in 6 to 12 months) before buying a tablet PC/ipad/Slate device would be a good strategy unless you have lots of money to spend now. Got lots of money now? Buy an ipad.

Also think of it this way - 15++ years ago nobody thinks of a GSM celphone as absolutely necessary. Or 10++ years ago a DSL/internet line is not a necessity. We do not think that way now.

It's easier to manufacture yung tablet vs. notebook. Kaya malaking savings sa manufacturer. Bulky DVD/ Bluray drives are being replaced by ligther SDHC drives.

I think Acer is stopping it's netbook lines because it has lost that market segment to other brands like Asus and MSi which kept on pumping out more newer versions of their netbook.

I noticed that Acer netbook has really stopped developing newer models a long time ago. Given that they have stagnated their product line, it is inevitable they will stop producing netbooks.

From our point-of-view it might seem "easier" to manufacture but you have to consider that the design limitations of the format. It has to be slim in thickness, you need to package a big touch-screen and enough battery power to last for hours of use. As we know, the bigger the screen, the more power is requires. The need to choose either expensive SSD or cheap but slow flash memory for on-board storage. Choosing expensive capacity or cheaper resistive touch screen technology. With or without LAN? And many more considerations even before the first chip on the motherboard is laid out. Space is a premium in a tablet.

Yup,- our first couple of netbook purchases were Acer stuffs.

    However, succeeding ones are Asus.

Are the Apple Ipad and other tablets only a fad?
