Ive seen a couple..handsome looking car. But Pinoys are gobbling up the Ford explorer ------ recall problems and all. The Explorer is cheaper, much faster, more kitted out, more macho and nowadays extremely popular here.

I rarely see the new CX9 on the road. It is quite good-looking in the flesh. Unfortunately, the Explorer is the king of midsize petrol SUVs in terms of sales locally.

For reference, my 2012 CX9 3.7L V6 from start to present has managed 4-5km/liter in city, and 8-9 in highway.

    Personally, the CX9 doesn't look like it's worth 2.8M.

One looks like a luxury crossover.

The other looks like an SUV.

    Psychology sells.

Even if you'd rip the front bumper completely off if you tried going off road in an Explorer... Ford does not quote approach, departure or breakover angles for the Explorer... hell, they don't even quote a safe flood fording depth!... it still looks like something tough.

The CX9 makes no pretensions about what it can or can't do. Hence, buyers looking for the false security provided by a "rugged" SUV pass it by.

I got the CX-9 last month. It's super quiet inside and very responsive. 1st and 2nd row seats are very spacious, 3rd row is very cramped and very hard to access. I get around 8-9km/li 70/30 highway/city.

However, the TOTL CX-5 has more safety features, like the adaptive cruise control, etc.

One of the deal breakers for me when I checked out the cx-9 in the flesh. The cramped 3rd row.. and how the 2nd row snaps back into an absurd position every single time you access the 3rd row.

I won't be using the 3rd row anyway, so it was not a concern when I was checking it out.

How is the driving dynamics of the Mazda CX-9 compared to the Mazda CX-5?
