Your belt went? You lost waterpump function. This is commonly feline/rodent caused. Nothing splattered in the engine bay? M2 shares the same tensioner damper/pulley assembly w/ the other kodos. 3, CXs. 12k is a lil too much. 2-3weeks a lil too long.[emoji852]

Well, they're not letting you claim under warranty, so why worry? Thing is...those links I sent are hobo replacements. Genuine in pic below.
The greater concern here is why you lost the belt. If this was indeed caused by some cat or pest squeezed upon cranking, there should be signs. The tensioner, being a moving & highly stressed item, does expire, but it's not known to dislodge belts.[emoji848]

I had mine replaced under warranty. That is, the tensioner. However, the technician said that somehow it is "still good" so I have the original tensioner and the replacement part in my room.
It seems this is a common issue as they showed me a few tensioners they replaced. In comparison to the one they have shown me, mine is still good. I'll just wait until I see visible leaks and then replace it.

Hydraulic tensioners expire. Ours are way beefier than others. Look at how weak this BMW model had below. Notorious for seeking replacement every 5k miles. Good thing the damper is now made available separate from the assembly.
Mazda could've gone StretchFit to eliminate the tensioner....like they did w/ the AC belt.[emoji848]

November 8th, 2019 05:00 PM #2307Frankly disappointed.
Why i bought a brand new mazda in the first place was the worry free 1st 3 years of of ownership they are advertising by yojin3. If this is a common issue, shouldnt there be a recall or maybe have the replaced free of charge if many owners experience this :/

Yojin is the free service we all pre-paid. Warranty is a different thing. Talk to your SA, sir. Have the cause looked into. Too young to have that issue w/o reason. Beg for coverage. Warranty or insurance, perhaps? But if found to be caused by some squeezed entity....that can't fall under 'defect'.
My 3 is over 5years old, stock tensioner still doing its job. I do regularly pop the bonnet. We have cats that call the garage=>home, the engine bay=>bedroom.[emoji4]
By the way, have you seen your tensioner/damper assembly? If it isn't leaking, the pulley not wobbly nor rough-turning, try a new belt on. There might be no damage there. If weeping, the damper might still work while you wait for the new 1. It'll just be noisy....unless it's too far gone.

Please note of the word I used, "it seems to be a common issue". In the dealer where I bought the car, I'm the only Mazda 6 owner who complained about the intermittent noise. Anyways, I don't think they sold more than 10 units by the end of 2017. However, the particular part is shared among models if I'm not mistaken.
What I'm saying is, I do not claim that this is an issue although I suspect it is. Just like my side mirrors. Yes, plural form. My brother's CX-5 had a warranty claim on his side mirror. I claimed it through warranty on different occasions. The car is only two years old and I might say, this is a disappointment for a relatively new car.
Since I really like and appreciate how the car makes me feel whenever I drive, these hiccups became "invisible".
If I may add, I'm in good terms with the technicians and service manager. I sometimes get free services that I cannot disclose at the moment. Perhaps befriending them will give you some "haggling privileges" if ever you want to claim the issue you have through (extended) warranty.
