mikey, the towns of western pangasinan are a good explore. along the way, a stopover in the suasalito restaurant in sual will give one an eagle's eye view of the surrounding areas. the resort psalm must be referring to is puerto del sol in patar, bolinao. patar is about ten km away from bolinao proper and there are several resorts along the way, especially after balingasay bridge (good photo ops here too!). on the way to patar, there are several caves with names like cindy's and wonderful which offer freshwater swimming inside. patar also has a white sand beach with a tall lighthouse nearby from which to view scenic vistas of the bolinao and agno shorelines.
one can also take in the small town charms of the places onwards from the route to the left of alaminos city. mabini, agno, dasol, infanta. good driving in the roads there too. there is also a notably long stretch of road in dasol good for ferrari tune-ups (aka ratrat!) oftentimes, the roads here are deserted most times of the day. dasol has good beaches, infanta has a town plaza with old acacia trees, agno is a bit off the beaten track.
i have good memories of dagupena restaurant. i used to frequent the place when i used to live in pangasinan. i had several long chats with the old lady who sometimes manned the cash register. she reminded me a lot of my mother -- down to the estampita-studded table she had. i will miss the charm of that place when it finally moves, even the cramped parking spaces in the back! carlo, where is the exact location it will move to? will it be near the old max's restaurant in the calasiao junction?
dawel is ok too but a bit too heavy on the retro ambiance. i prefer to have my bangus done the siapno's way though. i think they have got their inihaw technique down pat. no overly burnt skin and the flesh is cooked just right. even their pork inihaw is great!

diesoline,
thanks for the travel tips. I'll be sure to check those places out when the missus and I have some spare time, hopefully during the summer break next year.
psalm,
oops, my mistake. I meant to say "San Manuel" instead of San Miguel. Siguro nananabik lang akong uminon ng beer
By the way, EZ Maps has just come out with their 2005 edition map of Pangasinan. Aside from the provincial map, there are also city maps of Dagupan and Urdaneta, as well as Lingayen. I don't know about the other places, but their Urdaneta map has a lot of errors, which I plan to inform them about when I have the time. I found the map at National Book Store in CSI Mall Dagupan.

Diesoline, mukhang naikot mo na buong Pangasinan ah. I will surely pass by those places you mentioned on the way to Bolinao when I get the chance next year. My family love to go to places we've never been before.
Diba delikado sa mga towns ng Infanta, Dasol, Mabini, etc. (western Pangasinan) because of NPA? I remember years ago when we went to Manleluag Hot Springs in Mangatarem town on our way to Camiling, we were told not to stay late as there are NPAs roaming around. I think eastern part of the province is also NPA infested.

the small towns of western pangasinan are actually at the tailend of the olongapo-zambales-alaminos route, one of the most scenic routes i have had the pleasure of driving thru. i have driven thru that route at many times of the day and even at midnight and early morning. nothing untoward naman. re the so-called npas, i think they are just local bandits, but it's a good idea to heed the locals' advice though.
mikey, toma na tayo!

Guys help naman, maybe you can provide me with a detailed route (with landmarks) going to Dagupan via camiling from NLEX. The last time I took the Urdaneta route was a real pain in the A**! Kasumpa-sumpa yung araw na yun - ehehehe. Also, may magandang beach resort ba dun that you can recommend? We'll be staying at Star Plaza Hotel (during the holloween break) as our provincial house in Pugo, Lasip Grande is no longer safe to stay after the 1991 earthquake.
mikey177, how much is the EZ Map of Dagupan/Pangasinan? Does it include the Camiling route?
Thanks...

diesoline,
Call ako dyan. Text ka lang kung hindi ka busy
Irog,

mikey, i am only good for two brown bottles. beyond that, you will have to drive me up to baguio!
irog, the route is relatively straightforward. all you have to do is follow the traffic flow after you take a left at the rotunda before siesta bus stop in tarlac. you will get to a bridge that you will cross to get to the main highway going to alaminos. you go straight ahead until you reach camiling and get to a t-intersection:
1. turn right and it will lead you to the secondary road to bayambang/bautista/malasiqui/sta.barbara/calasiao. this is the shorter route but the roads are narrower. imo, not a problem, though.
2. turn left, this leads to the bigger highway. this road will lead to the towns of san clemente(tarlac)/mangatarem/aquilar/bugallon. go straight ahead and disregard the "to alaminos" route. afterwards, you will hit lingayen then binmaley. daytime traffic is heavier on the lingayen/binmaley corridor though.
or you can ditch all the above instructions and just travel at night. i do that all the time!
mikey, btw, have you tried the malasiqui to villasis road yet? it is quite scenic too. rolling hills and mango trees galore! look the route up your ezmap. it might be there.

i agree with diesoline, mas oks yung route going to dagupan via bayambang. You can save 30min if you take that route but dont pass there at night. madilim kasi dun and naexperience na namin na naflatan dun ng mga 6:30pm, malayo yung vulcanizing shop.
sir EC,
aba oks yan! hahahaha! KKB tayo!!
Onga pala sa mga dagupenos, try nyo yung cafe feliz sa Lenox hotel sa rizal street in Dagupan. Napakasarap ng Chinese food dun. Sarap din yung Choco Lava ng daughter ni Siony's garden! woohooo!
