Sa mga tsikoteers na naka Crosswind with Michelin LTX A/T Tyres. Kamusta performance ng tyres? Di ba sya maingay sa highway? Malakas ba grip? what are the pros and cons?

OT: Check Goodyear Fortera Triple Tred, not the Silent Armor model.

    cdman,

by nature, on pavement, A/T tires will offer more noise and less grip, thanks to their design. grooves are deeper and wider compared to H/T or on-road tires. ride is also bouncier. off pavement is what A/T tires were designed for. grip will be better due to those deeper and wider grooves. dirt and mud will be lodged there, but will leave the tire tread unaffected, unlike with H/T tires with shallower and narrower grooves which are going to be easily covered in dirt and mud.

the number of ply in a tire will also affect how hard the ride can be as well as load capacity, although with constant upgrades in tire technology, less ply nowadays will not necessarily mean less load capacity.

looks like you're shopping for new tires for your Adventure, if i'm not mistaken. if you're on pavement most of the time (i.e. mon-fri) and occasionally off pavement (i.e. weekends) coz the path to your favorite haunts aren't cemented yet, i would think you can stick with on-road tires. however, if that un-cemented path/dirt road is so bad, and perhaps you go there often, you might want to consider sacrificing road noise and ride comfort for the option to go off pavement on weekends. let us know na lang what the off pavement conditions are, so we can give you more inputs

    good luck.

sir ano ba difference nitong 2 Fortera tyres. I checked sa Goodyear and isa lang klase meron sila... which is worth about P3,300 each. Is this the Silent Armor model?

sir IMm29, thanks sa marami mong input! yes I am shopping for a new tyres and I am undecided which one to get.

My usual route is QC to Bagiuo and Pangasinan twice a week. I drive long highways and then a few off roads pagdating sa Pangasinan and Baguio. Medyo mabuhangin at mabato tapos pagumulan ay sobra putik. And mostly city driving sa lubak lubak na kalye sa QC and Manila. My current tyres are the stock Goodyear Eagle NCT. All of them including the spare are already punctured severely. Another problem I am experiencing are the sharp turns on the zigzag highways specially when it is wet, di sya makapit. In my part ayoko rin sacrifice yung comfort ng long drive sa highway kasi ilan hours din yun.

Sabi kasi sa isang shop na nag carry ng Michelin ay tahimik at makapit daw yung LTX A/T sa highways tapos at the same time OK sya pang off-road. Pero from all your input and experience ay hindi totoo. I also read in some of the threads here na matibay daw ang Michelin.

I also tried looking for the Dunlop RV-501 pero out of stock na daw. One of my friend is using a Fortera on his Revo and ok naman ang feedback. Malambot at tahimik daw but I do not know kung ok sa occasional off-raods kasi city driving lang sya. The Michelin Vanpix naman ay super tibay daw pero matagtag pag wala ka masyado load.

The Michelin LTX A/T is worth P4100, the Vanpix is worth P4100 din while the Goodyear Fortera is worth P3300 and the Dunlop RV-501 is worth P3100.

Up to now, I do not know which of the above tyres to get. Hopefully before the month ends ay mapalitan ko na yung tyres ko kasi di na safe.

What do you think guys? Help naman...

Mine lasted 90k km without problems. It's sturdy, has a very long thread life, thick sidewall, etc. If you are not after for the excellent grip, soft ride, sporty racing look, etc. then go for it. Sulit yung 1K na difference. Yung ibang tires 40k to 50k km pa lang palitin na.

LTX grip is decent but not spectacular. Ang lakas ko mag-lock up diyan and maingay siya when cornering at a hurried pace. Dalawang units namin ang naka LTX A/T so I guess we could rule out the vehicle (magkaibang brand din yung sasakyan). hehehe.

    cdman,

OTEP gave his inputs about the LTX in the 'Starex' thread. and i agree with his point. you drive primarily on paved roads, save for some stretches of dirt roads. most cars on stock radials will probably be able to take those roads, so your adventure should be able to take them with non-AT tires.

Just for info the michelin A/T tyres in my 2002 xwind (odo read 74300KM) said to be oem by previous owner are starting to show cracks sa sidewall though makapal pa yun threads.
