Initial diagnosis by the mechanic is that the oil is mixing with the fuel (dreaded injector problem). I guess I am the latest victim of the 4jx1 problem. Several years ago, I contacted the Isuzu dealership to inquire about the recall, whether my car was subject to it. They said that my VIN was not included in the recall and that only models 2003 up were part of the recall. My question is if the fault of my car is due to the 4jx1 problem, can I ask for free replacement of the injector? To thos who had their injectors replaced: is it better to sell this car then keeping it and incur repairs in the future?
sir. how will you know that ur engine is mixing with oil and fuel?

i think that's injector problem... That was also mentioned by SA when I brought my 2003 Trooper during 60KM PMS. So, they replaced the O-ring & charge me less than 2K including the labor. I think this is also part of the silent recall. Prior to that, I always mentioning this to them to replace the o-ring due to excessive smoke on my trooper. At last, during the 60Km check, they replaced it. As of now, my trooper is * 88Km & doing fine.
Are you the 1st owner? Did you regularly send your trooper for PMS in the casa where you bought your trooper? I think you can still ask for a recall...it is not based on the year but based on the engine 4jx1.

...also,my trooper is casa maintained & have been using multi-z 10w30 engine oil.
*benny010 - Yes, I'm the first owner. CASA already replaced the injector free of charge with no questions asked. I guess they know already that it is included in the 4JX1 recall. They are also replacing the RPCV and RPS but it is not free. Total damage: P34,233 (incl. change oil, change belts, labor), they gave me a discount on the parts. I do my change oil sa gas station but I have it checked at the CASA every 10k. I use Petron All Terrain 5w30.

*baby_scar - I had the Isuzu mechanic look at the car. When he pulled the the oil dipstick, you can see that there was diesel present. In other cases, water and oil would mix. Just observe your car when it suddenly losses power. May nakasabay din akong two other Trooper, nag-wild daw yung car...but same injector problem. If you have a 4JX1 engine better bring it to CASA and have it checked.

What i am worried about now is that what is the guarantee it wont breakdown again? Ive read other forumers story of breakdowns after changing the injector, this time its the cylinder head that becomes defective. Trooper is a nice car...good ride and all but I want to have peace of mind that it won't die on me when I drive at night or in the middle of nowhere.

Wow! '02 Trooper with only 58k on the clock! All Troopers with the 4JX1-TC engine ('98-'05) are included in the recall. Ours is also an '02 Trooper with 68k on the clock now. Had the injectors replaced FOR FREE at the casa and also replaced the diesel particulate filter (which wasn't free). Engine performance became extremely good, even better than when we bought it.

my cousin plans to buy a pre-owned 2003 trooper which we all know has a 4JX1 engine... if sa time nya masisira yung injectors, yung casa ba will still replace it for free kahit second owner na siya? TIA

I'd say "YES" but with stiff requirements. ISUZU may replace the injectors only ONCE (since new) and would highly depend if the said Trooper has been CASA-maintained since new.

Didn't Isuzu already replace the injectors with "improved" ones already? If that is true then shouldn't it be that it wouldn't need to be replaced again? Ours is a 2nd hand unit that was originally bought from Isuzu Commonwealth. Its religiously maintained but we don't do everything at the casa, and we've never had to pass any sort of requirements so far.

True. Similar incident "should" not recur. As to the requirements of being CASA-maintained all it's life since new, that's just an information passed on to me. If one could get away with it, good for him.

But since he isn't the 1st owner of the vehicle, I'd suggest he have it checked na rin sa CASA. As GTi claims, di naman daw strict CASA for they do not require any documents to prove this.

4JX1 - Isuzu Trooper troubles already resolved?
