The 1B is not a fine ... it's the incentives that were given to assemblers that they are required to return to the government ...

This is nuts. I'm pretty sure the understanding on all sides was CKD assembly, not SKD. And when I passed the plant, what I saw were bodies in white stacked in the sun.

Hope they can come to a resolution. Lots of jobs stand to be affected by this.

I was under the impression that all hyundais here coming from batangas are CBUs built in Korea. Even the stickers on the side windows of hyundais and kia's say "made in korea".

    simple really

Hyundai HQ does not have an assembly plant in the Phils.

So why would they send knocked-down units to the Phils. for assembly

HARI really is greedy, apart from stripping their units down to bare minimum, they even have the gall to steal money (taxes) intended for the people!

And how come the mainstream news outlets are not reporting this?

well, the practice of stripping the cars is not unique to hari. "just look at the cars we have here, and their equivalents elsewhere."

and avoiding paying taxes, is extremely common, if i may harshly suggest.

i heard it fresh from dzmm.
we probably wanted it in screaming headlines everywhere, 'cause we are car aficionadoes. alas, there were other deemed-more-news-worthy items that overshadowed it that day.

conicidentally, a popular auto publication just recently included the eon as one model that was assembled (manufactured?) locally. i wonder now, how this ruling will affect its price now.

as an aside, this CKD versus SKD is nothing new. it was already an issue back in the 70s.

If it is not on the headlines, that means HARI paid good money to keep this down.

Sa requirements ng govt, mitsu at toyota lang talaga ang kaya mag produce ng x amount of vehicles dahil mataas ang demand nila dito.

HARI just got greedy and got caught.

Well... maybe we should publish an erratum?

As for headlines, hmm... I don't know. Will talk to some friends to see how many know about this... I'm just the technical guy, I don't usually post industry news.
