Honda to sell 2 US-made cars in PH - InterAksyon.com

MANILA – The Philippine unit of Honda Cars said it will start selling two US-made models to expand its market share.
Honda Cars Philippines Inc. on Wednesday launched the fourth generation Odyssey and the second generation Pilot.
This after the Japanese carmaker launched an upgraded City in January, an all-new Civic and the Japan-made Jazz special edition in February, and the all-new CR-V in April
During the launch, Tatsuya Natsume, president and general manager of HCPI, said the Odyssey and Pilot models will increase its model line-up in the Philippines to seven from the current five.
"So far this year, we have seen the recovery of the Philippine automotive market, with monthly sales from February exceeding the same period last year. With favorable economy, we see further potential for growth," Natsume said.
He said the company plans to sell at least 40 units a month of the Odyssey and Pilot models.
"The demand is not that big. The market itself is very small, but we are happy to expand our customer range," Natsume said.
The Odyssey will retail for P2.8 million and the Pilot, P2.6 million.
The first generation Odyssey was introduced in 1994, followed by the second and third generations in 1999 and 2005, respectively. The latest model was launched in the US in 2010.
The first generation Pilot was introduced in 2002, while the second generation in 2008 before getting an upgrade in 2011.
Xavier Eyadan, HCPI head of marketing, said the Philippines is the first country in the Asia and Oceania region to introduce both models.
"With the introduction of these premium family vehicles, Honda would like to provide joy to Philippine customers in a market segment where Honda previously did not have any presence," Eyadan said.
Data from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturer of the Philippines Inc. showed that Honda accounted for 15.8 percent of the total market in the first quarter, behind Toyota’s 34.2-percent and Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corp.’s 17 percent.
