October 24th, 2019 07:53 AM #1you're in a tough spot, sir.
a car that old and in that price range, is sure to need repair at various levels.
while good buys in that range are still possible, chances are, gagastos pa kayo sa pag papagawa.
an honest, knowledgeable mechanic is nice to bring, even if you have to pay him. he can save you money. but personally, i do not know where to get one.
my recommendation is, the simpler cars. corolla glis.. sentra efis..
and avoid ex-taxis at all cost.
good luck.

18-20 year old na sedan ang balak mo sir?
Engine, aircon, etc. after 15 years may tagas na karamihan.

That's why I don't wanna buy a used vehicle na I don't personally know the owner.
When I sold my car 18 yr old car in 2014, I made sure that the car had no issues. Ayokong may masabi sakin yung buyer.
The worst flooding it was driven on when it was fairly new was a little above gutter deep somewhere in Pasong Tamo (very notorious for floods) Also, I think that's one reason why the buyer wanted the car kasi sure na never flooded.
Maybe it helps minimize the risk if you buy from a first owner who live in areas that don't flood?

October 26th, 2019 06:32 AM #5Hi mga Sir experts jan! Good day to you all! I am currently looking for a second hand car and I only have a very limited budget (120k to 160k). The reason why I doing this is because I have a wife and two kids below 10 yrs old. I only have a motorcycle and obviously that will not work for all of us.
Bibili lang naman ako ng car para lang may magamit pag kasama sila and this will only happen maybe once a week or every other week....or even longer interval. Hindi ko ito pang everyday use.
Meron po ako nakitang within my budget like Ford Lynx 2003, 2005, Nissan sentra 2001-2005, Toyota Camry 2002 and the likes....
Based on my very limitted, humble knowledge in engines...cars in general...common sense...I would say na yun quality nila ay ok pa din.
Can you please give me some advice regarding this? How about the spare parts...mahirap pa din po ba maghanap?
Maraming salamat po!

October 24th, 2019 02:42 PM #8Bought a 22 year old car last year. The car is a 96 Corolla Gli. Swertehan lang talaga sa pag-pili ng sasakyan. Kailangan rin talaga mag-dala ka ng mekaniko to check everything, from body to engine to suspension. Yun sa akin, medyo may red flag kasi parang flooded unit. nung pag-baklas ng sidings may putik sa loob, indicating na binaha yung unit. Pero nakakapagtaka is, okay na okay yung engine, as in walang issue. Kayang kaya pa ngang humataw hanggang 165 kph sa TPLEX! Of course, there are minor issues, pero if your main purpose is na maidala ka from point A to point B, that shouldn't be a problem.

October 26th, 2019 03:15 AM #9Common answer talaga corolla big body edition.. Kaya we still have our 1996 corolla xe. Bought it from my mom when I had the means. Got it brand new. Changed all the rubber parts in engine bay (kahit di sira, preventive lang, and got genuine parts when I can) and some REALLY small things. Only big items I had replaced where wheels, tires, some rear suspension work and clutch. Only needs paintwork now but cant schedule it yet since I still love driving it around almost everyday, kahit may iba pang pwedeng gamitin. Only downside is that new mechanics are not too careful fixing it (buti ma lang hindi sirain) kaya kailangan bantayan, unless dun sa mga kilala ko na noon pa.

October 14th, 2020 02:02 AM #10For me the safest 20 year old car buy is gonna be a Land Cruiser.
Land Cruiser purportedly designed for a 25 year service life under hard use, so 20 years is well within the design pa (not pushing it).
