Got inspired by your FC and I tried to drive as economically as possible today. Rosario LU to Laoag, got 15.4 km/L as per the MID, with an average speed of 46 kph. Will verify with a full tank tomorrow.
Didn't know it was possible to get that FC while still overtaking all vehicles on the road. Very tempting to just use the power and go all out when overtaking, but being mindful of the FC makes it a game of strategy and momentum more than just timing and power.
Key was to maintain as much speed as possible after overtaking (meaning no overtakes that would require you to brake afterwards). Interestingly, same travel time/avg speed as when I would drive with quicker overtakes and higher speeds. Since going fast will be negated by the next tricycle anyway, it's better to just coast until the opposite lane is clear for overtaking.
It wasn't a fun drive though, but at least it's more economical than my usual 11-12 km/L.

Whoa! 15.4! I was starting to think my 14.9 was a fluke. So it IS possible to have great FC even on provincial roads!
I guess it can be a bit boring to try to get the best FC, but it could be an interesting exercise in self control as well ;)
The best takeaway I'm getting from your test is "same travel time/avg speed as when I would drive with quicker overtakes and higher speeds".
Thanks for sharing your results!

It boils down to the fact that the uncontrollable circumstances (town traffic, road works, tricycles) are bigger factors than those that you can control (speed, overtaking, etc). In other words, it's better to just go with the flow (or just go slightly faster than everyone else in order to overtake), at least during daytime.
At night, the travel time is much quicker if you drive faster, since no tricycle would negate the time saved from driving at triple digit speeds. FC will also be good even at a much faster pace because you don't have to brake (and accelerate again) unnecessarily.

Yup, FC drops significantly after 100 kph.
With my Altis before, I would get the ff:
80 kph - 20 km/L
100 kph - 16 km/L
120 kph - 14 km/L
Getting similar figures with my Civic FB now, but haven't logged as many km to get definitive results.
FC sweet spot is usually around 70-90 kph for most cars. If you wanna maximize FC, cruise the entire tollway at 80 kph. You'd be bored to death though. Tried it before for 200 km just to get 20 km/L based on full tank method, but not worth the hassle for everyday driving.
