It is useless to have timers kung ganyan lang din. Maraming estudyante sa grade school magtatanong nito, kung bakit hindi marunong magbilang yung traffic lights, bakit pagdating ng "1" eh napakatagal ng transition (these counters show number of seconds left).

I'd just like to add that there are a LOT of traffic lights in manila like this.

Yung malala pa, 20 seconds pa yung ilaw, biglang magiging yellow then red yung arrow signs.

Muntikan na ako mabangga/mahuli if diniretso ko yung intersection. Mas okay na mahuli, huwag lang mabangga.

im gonna go with this. pansin ko sa taft mas matagal ang green light ng taft avenue pag madaming sasakyan compared sa 6:30am na konti palang ang motorista.

and wag sana sisihin yung numbers, they only serve as a guide. yung lights ang tingnan natin. kasi pag nahuli ka ng TE o pulis "beating the red light" ang malamang na kaso mo at hindi "beating the countdown timer".

kahit may timer yan, pwede yan imanual, isang pindot lang ng TE, red na yan.

simple lang solusyon jan, wag ibigay ang lisensya pag sinitasa ganyang trap. hehe. oo mahahassle ka sa pakikipagusap sa TE, pero mas hassle yung babalikan mo pa sa city hall yung lisensya mo para tubusin.

basta pag alam nyong trap, wag kayo papatalo sa enforcers, pero kung valid na violation, cyempre dapat pahuli kayo pag ganun.

sa traffic light kasi titingin, wag sa numbers. kahit biglang mag yellow yan dapat alam nyo kung di na kayo aabot o makakatawid pa, depende sa layo niyo sa intersection at sa traffic volume.

there's no such violation as beating the countdown timer, beating the red light meron.

besides, ilang dekada na tayo gumagamit ng stoplights na walang timer, di natin alam kung mag yellow na siya or not. at alam na rin natin kung tutuloy pa ba tayo or hindi kung abutan nga ng yellow.

anyway, sa araneta ave ganyan din sa bayani intersection and yung sa arlington banda.

the number countdowns are there for two reasons:
1. for the color-impaired; and
2. to help the motorist estimate his chances of success.

using colors alone, it would be very difficult to accomplish the above.

anyway, i think the mis-count is due to electronic failure because of brown-out.. they (their programs) have to be re-set by humans..

then this is misleading drivers and pedestrians, which can result into accidents.
