After seeing the extent of the damage of the van from the news footage, looks like the truck was coming in real fast and this is contradicting the statement of the truck driver that he was already green when the van ran into the intersection...
Parang impossible na in such a short distance, the truck could accelerate that fast with enough speed to cause that kind of damage to the van. I'm no expert but that's how i see it.

Likewise, and I wish Atty. Saguisag and his driver a speedy recovery.
On a side note, does anybody have pics? I'm curious as to the extent of damage on both vehicles. Surely, seatbelts would not have saved Dulce. On the other hand, it may also prevent her from being thrown around.
Did the van roll over? I know those vans are pretty top heavy.
It's a good idea to wait a few moments before setting off after the light has turned green. Just make sure to look both ways first, you never know when anybody will come barreling down. This incident may have been caused by the lack of vehicles and the speeding truck. If it were day time I'd think there'd be no speeding truck due to the amount of cars on the road.
Be safe out there.

Buti na lang both sides of the political fence have joined hands and shown sympathy to this tragedy. For a moment I thought someone like Trillanes might blame the goverment again and say it was a conspiracy. They'll say the truck is owned by Mike Arroyo or Garci...Side impact and I believe Dulce suffered the full brunt of it. The van was dragged along with the dump truck since the truck didn't stop on impact.

November 9th, 2007 09:40 AM #78Ouch. Red light, green light or whatever from the looks of the damage that truck was simply running well beyond speeds you should be at when going through an intersection. I can only hope this incident leads to stricter policing of our roads, especially at night and in the wee hours of morning.

Well, it was obvious from the start that the truck wasn't coming from a stop. The only question is whether he crossed in the middle of a green light or was running a red light.
But I think the evidence already supported the theory that the van was crossing on a green... if the van was beating a red, it should have had enough momentum that the impact would have sent it diagonally into the barriers. Instead, it ended up being dragged along. This indicates that the van was moving quite slowly at the time of impact and was probably proceeding at the change of lights or after the driver stopped to assess conditions at the intersection.

One factor that should not be overlooked is the position of the stoplight at this intersection, which my brother suggests is not very visible. Maybe some additional rumble strips and lights there might help increase safety.

I guess this is a reminder to all of us... even if it looks clear, don't assume it is. A costly lesson for that dump truck driver, who would be lucky to get the chance to apply it...

IMO, determining who has the right of way is no longer relevant. What we can learn from here is to be more aware and cautious on your surroundings even if the green light flashes before you. Yeah you may have the right of way, you may assert that your right prevails over the other person. But would you rather run the risk of getting injured or much worse getting killed in reason of asserting a little right?
The number of trucks traversing thru that highway greatly increases during late nights. Most of them are even running at dare devil speeds. One time I even followed a dump truck to see how fast he is going. Guess what, its running between 100-110kph. A lot of people have accounted several accidents caused by speeding trucks. Well tingin kasi nila siguro malaki sila kaya sisiga siga sa kalye.
the city government or any other government agency who has jurisdiction over Osmena highway should do something to greatly reduce the number of vehicular accidents. In the meanwhile, ingat tayoLast edited by usokpower; November 9th, 2007 at 10:46 AM.
