    yes, hybrid.

I just find it weird. pero I have no time to look for it sa manual and wala naman akong choice but to follow the instruction na lumabas sa dash.

For older cars the bigger factor for me is that they sometimes idle lower in D, so mas mahina yung A/C.

That's why I used to put it in N when stopping for a light, for example. But watching this video I'm going back to leaving it in D.

Yes, totally agree. Should've been more precise.

The 30% is a big number but in the grand scheme of things, it's still a drop in the bucket. Acceleration and cruising gets the bulk of your fuel consumption.

However, if you add up just the idling times with the shifter on D, you can extrapolate how much fuel (by getting the 30% of it) was from parasitic load by the A/T.... then that figure becomes significant.

Ah, yes, in the grand scheme of things. Understood.

Battery almost depleted ... engine starts to charge ... but must be in Drive to be able to charge ... read this somewhere and also one reason why they don't recommend shifting to Neutral at stop light ... but will still shift to Neutral for safety reasons ... what happens if you get distracted and transmission in Drive? ...

    2. Replace the ATF - I totally agree. Lifetime fluids are a myth to anyone who likes to keep their cars trouble-free
    3. Warming up the A/T - Not really applicable in our tropical weather. But don't thrash it either
    4. Engine braking - As he says, do it conservatively to regulate speed and prevent brake fade on long downhill roads. It's a safety issue not to overheat the brakes. However, don't do it to slow down the vehicle every time you need to stop. Though, most modern A/Ts would apply light engine braking when you step on or just lightly tap on the brakes. Helps with fuel economy
    5. Driving in snow - Again, not applicable to us. The closest equivalent scenario would be doing donuts or getting unstuck on sand. Don't force it or risk overheating the A/T
    6. Protect the shifter from spills, physical abuse, etc. - This is self-explanatory...
    7. Unnecessary shifting between Drive and Neutral - Again, moderation is key. It's ok to shift to Neutral (+ handbrake) when in a particularly long stop. But don't do it every time you come to a stop
+100 on this. No. 7 lang yung subjevtive kasi for me 30 seconds or more na stops, I put it in N. But not in crawling traffic, luckily walang ganun sa province hehe.

No. 5 no expy as well.

Wala na ganyan. AT will last for the life of the car as long as you regularly maintain it.

Wala na din neutral sa stop dahil meron na brake hold pag masyado matagal naka stop nama automatic siya mag shift to P

Anong car to na automatic mag shift to P if naka on auto brake hold ng matagal?
Sa mga naka gear shifters na naka auto-hold, hindi pa ganito ang feature.
Wierd din na mag auto shift to P siya while the gear selector is still on D.

Does it? Akala ko it just holds the brakes for you using the ABS system, same mechanism used by the hill-start assist... car still in gear.

'Park' is still a manual thing that the driver must shift to and a mechanical mode that the A/T must transition to.

    Yan din yung naisip ko.
Pero I remember the Honda CRV and Honda Civic is now using shift by wire ba tawag dyan?
Yung pindot2 nalang ng button para maka select ng Gear.
Mag make sense din if button na ang type ng gear selectors.

Pero it won't make sense sa mga naka traditional gear lever selectors na AT.
