Ah... eh.... siguro pwede naman ikukunsulta muna yan sa DENR or sa ibang NGOs na may environmental concerns or they can take the necessary precautions din naman.

Pero i really think there's some sort of under the table deal going on, which is why the only cars destroyed were older models.

On a side note, now that imported cars are a hot topic, the cops seem overly excited to pull over "Y" or "R" plated cars lately. I just got pulled over earlier today (Y plate ko), and they insisted my car was hot, even though I personally made sure all its papers are clean. At least bringing up General Berroya's name still works to get rid of them...

Crushing of Cars at Subic Just a Circus

MANILA, Philippines -- The crushing of 18 smuggled cars at the Subic Freeport was just for show, a circus.

Many were either shells of unused cars or were no longer in running condition, according to my sources at the Bureau of Customs.

If the government was really set in putting a stop to the smuggling of luxury vehicles, it shouldn’t have spared the cars in excellent condition like the Lamborghini, Porsche Cayenne, BMW and 14 other luxury cars.

Why were the Lamborghini, Porsche Cayenne, BMW and the 14 other luxury cars spared from destruction?

The reason given was that they were the subjects of litigation as the owners had filed cases against the government so they could recover the cars.

That’s a lie, according to my customs sources. The real reason is that some of those cars were imported by persons very close to the powers that be.
    My thoughts exactly

Depende din kasi minsan. May mga R kasi na mukhang personalized. Ung nakikita kong random na R usually pajero, delica and besta

R/Y plates are hot because they are the plates issued in Central Luzon (R ang pumalit after they ran out of C) and Cebu where most imported used vehicles come in. Some of these vehicles did not have proper documentation or did not pay the right tax but were still issued license plates.

C plates and X plates on early model vehicles (plate age not matched to vehicle age) are also viewed as suspicious in terms of taxes and duties.

    Destroy all smuggled vehicles!

No government money was wasted when those smuggled vehicles were destroyed. Its the money of the smugglers and the downpayments of those who tolerate smuggling--the consumersof these vehicles!!

If some people want to call the destruction of these smuggled vehicles as stupidity---you are entitled to you own opinion...

But for me....to stop this stupidity of destroying smuggled vehicles, the government should crack down and prosecute
those who are responsible for these---the smugglers, corrupt custom, SBMA, free port officials, politicians and the consumers of smuggled vehicles---and stop all forms of smuggling!!!

Arroyo orders destruction of smuggled cars
