March 30th, 2012 07:33 AM #32I don think it will be underpowered. The trend now is to produce smaller displacement turbo powered engines to improce fuel economy. So yung output of the smaller engine should be similar to a bigger displacement engine

new 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine: 118 HP and 125 lb-ft of torque available from 1,300-4,500 rpm.
Given with the correct gearing, that power output would be adequate to speeds up to around 140kph. So if it's highway overtaking is an concern, the Eco-Sport should handle it with minimal drama.

March 31st, 2012 10:35 AM #35This is old school thinking where displacement is king. The trend now is for smaller displacement high output turbo charged engines. In the US and Europe carmakers are required to meet fuel efficiency targets. Take Mercedes Benz the naming convention of their cars no longer reflect the actual displacement of the car but the equivalent output.

you can add to the mix the need to keep the vehicle light without compromising safety
but if you put tons of speakers, amps, woofers and what have you on a small vehicle, then ibang usapan na yan

True and I noticed in the local forums, some just read the engine displacement, but don't bother to check if its turbocharged or not.
For those who have been living under a rock, EcoBoost engines = Turbocharged, Direct Injecton, Ti-VCT.
NA engines like the Fiesta's 1.6 Ti-VCT engine will also be available on the EcoSport, i'm assuming the ASEAN version will get this.Last edited by AG4; April 1st, 2012 at 04:40 PM.

useless lahat ng specs na naka-post kung wala pang nakaka-test drive.
case in point, the new ford explorer 2012 ecoboost. ganda ng specs, taas ng horsepower and torque. economical engine ek ek. ganda talaga ON PAPER! pero nung na-test drive na ano result? underpowered. sluggish. fuel economy less than 1km/l better than the V6 explorer. so ano recommendation ng test driver? don't buy, get the v6 instead.
so don't fall in love with this eco-sport yet till you've seen it in the flesh. baka mamya atat na atat ka na pagkatapos pag dating dito sa pinas at pag-open mo pa lang ng door e ayaw mo na.

That comment about the Explorer 2.0 EcoBoost came from Motor Trend, a sportscar/enthusiasts magazine in the US.
They might find its 9.2 sec 0-60mph acceleration time slow, but thats faster than majority of the diesel SUVs sold here.
The Explorer's 2.0 EcoBoost was tuned for fuel efficiency, not high speed.
You want to know how the 1.0 EcoBoost performs? Here's a test of the larger Ford Focus with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine.
Take note, the EcoSport is basically a jacked-up crossover-SUV version of the B-segment Fiesta.
Even such promising paper figures don't prepare you for the driving experience. You barely hear the thing start, and it idles so smoothly you'd swear it had stalled. Your brain tells you such a small engine will need lots of revs off the mark, but it gets going easily because the combination of a tiny turbo, advanced electronic engine management and double variable valve timing give it amazing oomph in the low gears, even below 2000rpm (though the redline's 6700rpm).
It flows through the gears, always quiet but sounding more like a thoroughbred six than anything mainstream. You'll enjoy revving it, but you soon learn that changing up in the 3000s (aided by a smooth clutch and a slick six-speeder) delivers far better economy with pretty good performance.
Amazingly, the car is even long-legged. You've got to be indicating nearly 90mph before the tacho shows 3000rpm in sixth, and it can maintain this up hill and down dale. It is already clear, however, that like Fiat's TwinAir this Focus triple is an economy car for the willing. We turned 52mpg on a medium-fast, 80-mile trip through southern Spain, where another crew, not much faster, returned economy in the late 30s. You have to understand Ford's triple to make it sing for its supper.
