February 11th, 2024 08:12 PM #882... perhaps our friend hasn't heard of it,
or had intended to mention only one place and not mention the competition.
heh heh heh.
btw,
my best roast duck (goose?), was from a literal hole in the wall, in a palengke in old HK.
the place could fit perhaps six people only, had crude furniture, and had this old chinese gentleman dressed in simple white t-shirt with some holes of age, doing the swinging of the knife. i believe his partner-cashier was the wife.
one colleague liked it so much, he had two entire cooked birds wrapped to be brought home.
i do not know if our local customs agent allowed it in. this was way before the bird flue period.
akuman, i took a birdie bag, for dinner that night in the hotel.
truly, never judge a book by its cover.

On the contrary we enjoyed Jiang Nan and we have been there thrice. What I like is the mushroom soup and all their balls were delicious cheese balls, lobster balls etc..... Maybe on lean days you could do walkins in Haidilao.
