kiper, buti naman at nagkakuryente na kami this am. my son and i are doing a daylong video game tournament :D
pero tama ka - batong-bato na talaga kami dito.
anyway, the winds have died down somewhat and we took a cruise around. my pics suck because my neighborhood had very little damage (fallen trees and random debris).
but here are some pics from the local news that are a bit more exciting:
pansin ko lang sa mga pics ng damages ng bahay at yung sa gas station, mukhang mas matibay yung mga constructions natin dito sa pinas... ayoko na talaga ng bagyo!!!!
you're right, keep yourselves well-stock, sir m54..it's good si frances lumayas na..heto pa si ivan na naman..sana humina na 'to..i have close family friends somewhere in orlando..
very ironic how houses are built of flimsy materials when florida lies along the path of destructive hurricanes every year..how are these being covered by insurances..?!
sa atin we do have our share of typhoon griefs year in and out but it takes experience, sheer guts & resilience to survive these nature's wraths..
looks like ivan might miss us and hit cuba to the south. hopefully it misses everyone.
there are older houses and mobile homes (trailers) that are really very flimsy - these are usually the homes that get demolished. it's quite stupid actually. the newer homes are built of concrete and are supposed to be much stronger.
insurance is a killer. we are required to buy full insurance for our houses (which covers flood, hurricane, etc.). that crap cost me almost $4,000 last year because of the billions of dollars in damages each hurricane causes.
when i lived in the philippines, napansin ko nga na solid concrete and iron ang construction...which is why i wasn't so scared during the big typhoons. the flooding was a pain in the ass though.
i really enjoy florida except for the hurricanes. there's always the chance that my company will relocate me in the future so that might be when i leave. otherwise, everything about florida is really great.
thanks for the advice though. i'm going to do a thorough inspection tomorrow morning. i climbed up on my roof after the winds died down and noticed some of my tile is cracked. i also need to take down my satellite dish because it won't survive another storm.
