For less than 5 years na gas cars, best get 10w40.

okay, thanks for your added inputs sir ry.

I don't agree with this one. Although it is true that oil degrades overtime due to heat, oxidation, etc., it has much to do with the quality of oil that you use. A cheap a$$ oil will have a higher thermal degradation than a highly refined quality oil.

Using w50 oil and assuming that it will degrade to w40 is not smart thinking. With that logic/reasoning, you should be worried, it might degrade to w20 too soon.

Do you really want to start your car with a 20w50 oil knowing that most of the engine wear occurs during start up, especially in a gas engine?

Like I said, its more of for those cars with at least 5 years of use and about 100,000kms of mileage. Not for new cars.

Oil will thin out as temperature rises. So its not about smart thinking, it's a scientific fact. Even if you use the best oil out there, it will thin out but not as much as a good oil, that I agree 100%. Pero kelan ba ako nagrecommend ng mahinag oil dito?!

hindi din naman siguro aaprobahan ng mga engineers ng toyota yan kung hindi applicable dito,
may mga studies yan, kaya before nila gawin may basis yan.
Don't underestimate the greed of filipino businessmen, there are a number of post here at Tsikot sharing their bad experiences with official CASA of their vehicle. Yung CASA pinapalitan ang mga piyesa ng sasakyan nila ng luma kapag nagpapa-PMS sila sa kanila.

Are you recommending 20w50 oil? For a gasoline engine? For a 5 year old/ or older car? Is that the best oil weight/viscosity for a car that type and that age that you can recommend?

    No.

    No.

All i'm saying is if it's a high mileage car, yes. That is an alternative to 15w40 or 10w40. It's not a directive sir, you may or may not follow it. I;m sure people here in tsikot would do their own research naman.

Nung tinanong ko sa TMB kung bakit 20W-50 ang gamit nito sa VVTi, ang sagot sa akin kung gusto niyo ho sir mag synthetic na lang kayo 5W-40.

Bec. Toyota uses Caltex products at least for their gas engine oil.

    20W-50 mineral dino oil

    10W-40 semi synthetic

    5W-40 fully synthetic

Locally kasi ala din naman mineral oil (for gas engine specific) any lower than 20W-50 except for Honda's Idemitsu repackaged 10W-30 mineral oil.

One alternative is to go for diesel engine specific mineral oil (but 100% compatible with gas engines). Usually in 15W-40

Mineral , semi synthetic or fully synthetic?
