The story I heard was, the older Gokongwei arrived at an airport abroad with a bunch of URC/JG Summit execs. JG told a bunch of execs to wait for him because he was going to withdraw some money at the ATM.

So the guys waited for him. When he came back he was counting a thick wad of local currency in front of them. The guys were excited as they thought he was gonna give out some pocket money.

Still counting the money, he told the guys to get a taxi for them. So they did, and JG rode with them. As he arrived at his stop, and was alighting from the cab, he told his guys to pay for the fare and left. 😂

One of those stories that keeps getting retold until people believe it's actually true ... if he's such a scrooge, why would he withdraw from an ATM abroad? ... and it would be strange for a tycoon to ride a taxi even if abroad ... if he is really stingy he would take the MRT or bus ... if he is really a rich tycoon, hotel service would pick him up ...

At his age I don't think he would've taken the train. He was a pretty portly guy back then and old. Story was told by a friend of my mom who used to work for them. Granted details may have changed as the story was told from person to person but I'm pretty sure it happened, unless that guy was lying outright.

sa Mineral water na summit na lang eh, parang may binawasan filtration stage, bat ganun yun tubig na lang parang pamprobinsya. meron naman pala sila P25B credit line to improve the taste of their water, di man lang mag-invest

Y'know Walter, I may not be so sure the story is real in part or entirely, but you seem to be so sure it isn't. May I know why? Do you know JG personally? Because that friend of my mom does. And he doesn't seem the type who fabricates stories. Although I don't discount the possibility, however unlikely it may seem.

Yung Summit na tubig, gawa ng Asia Brewery, hindi ng JG Summit group.

Nakabasa ka lang ng Summit eh, masyado kasing pagpapaganda ng katawan iniisip mo, bawasan mo konti.
