Fracas erupts at Trans Sport Show egress after Best of Show car gets damaged - News | TopGear.com.ph
Even the most minor collision between cars is enough to get a car owner's blood boiling. Now imagine if your car had just won the "Best of Show trophy in prestigious car show and it gets struck by the truck carrier of another exhibitor.
An eyewitness who requested anonymity said the winning car, an orange 1999 Porsche Boxster entered by JWorks Unlimited's John Lee Hagoriles, was damaged by the carrier of Starbright Bodykits during the Grand 3-Ring Motoring Event egress on May 29.
According to the eyewitness, shortly after the car carrier was parked at the loading ramp at the back of the SMX Convention Center where the egress was taking place, it rolled back and struck the Boxster that was parked a few meters behind it. A heated argument followed with, according to Hagoriles, the truck's driver who was seemingly inebriated brandishing a screwdriver.
Cooler heads intervened and after the dust had settled, Starbright's Andy Cheng agreed to shoulder the damages to restore the Boxster back to its winning form.
"It's a good thing that the security personnel of the SMX were there to defuse the situation," said Sophie de los Santos, president of Tradeshow International and the organizer of the show. "It's good that everything was settled amicably, with Andy agreeing to shoulder the damages."
Hagoriles was understandably upset to have his winning car damaged just a few hours after the show but he didn't make a big deal out of the situation. Although he declined to give an estimate as to how much it'll cost to restore the Boxster, he's content with Cheng agreeing to settle the matter.
"I just waited for Andy to arrive to settle the matter and when he agreed to pay for the damages, that was it. It's too bad that some parts of the Tech Art bodykit was damaged but at least the wheels are intact since those cost a whole lot more," Hagoriles said.
