MANILA INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW
The Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) is the Philippines’ biggest motor show in terms of visitor count, cars on display, and exhibitors. MIAS is an annual event organized by Worldbex Services International, a leading event and exhibition organizer in the Philippines.
History

Years after World War II, foreign automotive companies invested in the Philippines by establishing various assembly plants and other manufacturing operations in the country. However, during the Martial Law regime of Ferdinand Marcos, foreign investment declined and most car companies ended their operations in the country. When Martial Law ended, car makers started establishing new facilities in the region. The clamour for growth and the need for automotive brands to be showcased in a forum for new model debuts was what paved the way for what was then known as the Manila Motor Show.
Motoring writers Jason K. Ang, Ulysses K. Ang, and Alvin Uy approached Joseph Ang, Founding Chairman of Worldbex Services International, and talked about the idea of staging an international-grade and industry-based auto show. Joseph Ang, an events and trade show veteran, liked the idea and held the first ever Manila Motor Show in April 2005 as a tribute to his late father, who was in the automotive dealership business before his passing. The name of the event was changed to Manila International Auto Show the following year.

Since then, the Manila International Auto Show has been home to numerous car debuts, sneak peeks, test drives, driving exhibitions, and other exclusive car industry events unmatched by other car shows in the country.
Through the years

Since being renamed to Manila International Auto Show in 2006, MIAS featured a different theme every year. They are as follows:

2006 – Driving our Future
2007 – Modern Mobility
2008 – Imagination in Motion
2009 – Passion for Performance
2010 – Crossing Boundaries
2011 –Automotive Evolution
2012 – Motorsports

Manila International Auto Show 2012: Motorsports

For the 8th year running, car enthusiasts will once again race to the World Trade Center from March 29 to April 1, 2012 for the highly anticipated Manila International Auto Show (MIAS). With over 85,000 attendees annually, MIAS 2012 is bigger with 110 companies occupying the WTC, the Philippine Trade Training Center, the adjoining WTC East Wing and the specially constructed WTC East Wing B, with the total exhibit area now at 30,000 sqm. MIAS 2012 would feature the best concept cars, hybrid cars and many other automotives that will change the way we look at motoring and driving.

The highlights of this year’s MIAS include the Russ Swift Precision Driving Stunt Show, various car launches, test drives, motorsports exhibits, special demonstrations, and many more. Some of the notable events would be the Top Gear exhibit, which will feature top of the line car setups.

Also back is a bolder and bigger amphibian truck, which the Philippine Army, Philippine Marines, and the private sector modified and improved for this year’s show. Strategic spots throughout the venue have also been transformed into bachelor pads where visitors can watch their favorite movies, play video games, and other activities.
There will be a Gala Night for the Car of the Year Awards 2012 competition at the PTTC, hosted by MIAS 2012. Other competitions such as the MIAS Classic and Custom Car Competition, the European Mobile Media Competition, and a car photography contest would also be held.

MIAS merchandise can also be purchased at the venue, with items such as shirts, caps, USB hubs, baller IDs, and other MIAS 2012 novelty items.
